let's go to mary live outside city police headquarters.morning, once again. >> reporter: good morning, everybody. police say the officer was turning the key to his front door when the suspect approached him from behind, put a gun to his back and forced him inside. >> an off duty southwest district officer came home monday afternoon to an intruder with a gun. >> he was told to lay down on the floor. he got his service weapon, identified himself as a police officer and a short chase ensued. >> the chase ended on white avenue where the suspect was shot multiple times by the off duty officer. >> the guy kept running saying ha was sorry for whatever he did. >> reporter: baltimore city police found the suspect's gun and bullet casings nearby believed to be from the weapon. neighbors say they heard two sets of several popping noises. >> such a nice neighborhood, as far as i can tell. from the time i'm living here. >> i'm glad they were able to work it out like they did. >> reporter: the suspect remains in critical condition this morning. the offi

good evening, i'm mary beth marsden. the break in happened at the bank pawnshop. that's in hafer tee grace. how the thieves took advantage of a power outage. >> reporter: the black out lasted just about an hour and a half and only affected the downtown area. residents tell us police were covering all the cornsers, but while they were busy protecting the banks the pawnshop got broken into. >> 20 of them. >> even the youngest are shocked about the breaks in. 20 guns stolen from the pawnshop downtown. >> had to be more than one person that did that, has to be. >> the heist happened early thursday morning during a brief power outage. >> apparently from what i was told somebody had hit the transformer up by the reform. >> they probing through the second storey window in the back. >> yeah, no one would know that yeah, there's guns out on the street. >> the owners of the pawnshop refused to go on camera but tell us they have never had a break-in before. long time residents say there is a reason for that. >> they have very tight security there, they have got buzzer locks

mary's and calvert counties.cee wilkins joins us to tell us about this. >> because this is a federal case heading to court, there are still a lot of details the u.s. attorney does not want to share just yet. what we do know is this was a major drug operation. drugs were moved onto maryland from outside of the state and sold primarily in southern maryland. today police announced they brought this cartel down and plan on keeping it down by hitting it where it hurts. >> their goal is not simply to prosecute individual drug dealers. our goal is to uproot entire drug dealing organizations. >> reporter: that is what federal drugt agents, attorneys and local police agencies say they've done with the latest drug bust focusing on southern maryland. police say the dealers operated from november 2006 to september of this year, moving large amounts of powdered cocaine and crack. it appears this drug case started in st. mary's county. this is where most of the indictments are. the maryland state's attorney won't say a whole l
