"nbc 10's" matt delucia has been monitoring the situation all morning long. he joins us live from the digital operations center. matt, set the scene for us this morning. >> reporter: vai it was quieter. the demonstrations were mostly peaceful. people still want answers as to why freddie gray died in police custody. at that i can a look at new video. maryland state troopers remain on scene to keep things in order and calm. the national guard is also out there on the scene. bear in mind the state of emergency remains in effect in baltimore. just before the 10:00 p.m. curfew went into effect the streets were jammed with demonstrators, police state troopers and members of the national guard. smoke canisters were thrown into the crowd that sent people running in different directions down the side streets. the smoke wafted through the air causing people to cover their faces and run. the crowd responded by throwing rocks and bottles at the police but only a handful of arrests were reported. 150 troopers from new jersey state police they are in baltimore right now hel

matt delucia is live. matt the driver who allegedly hit the officer is in custody, right? >> reporter: that is right, vai. he is under arrest. he was taken to the hospital in all of this. i'll have more details in a moment. first we'll go to some video from the scene where you can see what happened late last night. here's what the lower pottsgrove chief is telling us about what happened. last night officers were pursuing a man from this area. they get to the intercessionsection of high and moser. he for thegot out of his vehicle and feels threatened and fired two shots. then the suspect drives off and in doing so hits him with the car. some things still under investigation is why the suspect was being stopped in the first place and also the suspect did have a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital as i mentioned. he's expected to be okay. police are trying to figure out if that injury came from the officer's gun or someone else. the officer, meantime is expected to be okay. he has minor injuries after

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live in crescentville. matt tell us more about what happened. >> tracy, the driver pulled into this development here off adams avenue on bing ham street. by the time he left he was desperately trying to get away. he crossed the avenue and went up the embankment and crashed into a utility pole behind the fence there. philadelphia police tell us the 49-year-old man was making the delivery of chinese food at around 10:30 tonight. either while he was still in the car or just getting out a dozen gunshots come in his direction and at least one hits him in the shoulder. after he sped off and crashed police and paramedics found that man unconscious inside his car. he was pronounced dead on arrival at einstein medical center. at this hour investigators believe this may have been robbery. >> we found 12 spent shell casings and some broken glass from the victim's driver door window. >> there was also a lot of blood in that car and even chinese food still in bags. presumably the food this man was trying to deliver late

nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside temple university hospital. matt, you have new information for us right? >> reporter: that is right, chris. we can tell you right now the two victims are here at temple hospital. one is 23 years old and stable. the other is 19 and in critical condition at this houmplt we'll go ahead and show you the scene around 1:30 this morning in the 2200 block of park avenue not far from where we are. there was a house party going on and a fight broke out spilling into the street when two people were shot. the officers heard the gunshots and found the victims who were injured and also found a man who was trying to put down a gun on the sidewalk. and then he tried to run, so at this point officers started chasing him, but the suspects fought with police before finally being taken into custody. now he and another man he was with are being interviewed by central detectives and so are the people at the party at the time. >> there were at least 100 people inside this house involved in the party when the fight broke out inside. the

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live. matt, you've been monitoring the live pictures coming out of baltimore. what's new there? >> reporter: there is some new audio from the mayor of baltimore talking about the violence that has continued long into the night. this is what we've been seeing overnight. fires burning along with a series of attacks and looting. the situation is so severe as we mentioned the national guard was called in as a last resort according to maryland's governor. they plan to be out in massive force in a support role deploying armed troops armored humvees and larger equipment. mayor stephanie rollins blake said over an hour ago she will bring order from chaos and bring those who destroyed property to justice. she says she understands there is anger out there, but what we are seeing is not anger, it's destruction of a community that the rioters claim to care about. >> you saw tonight a demonstration by the faith community coming together to take to the streets. i think it speaks to the real heart and soul

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us outside the church. matt, some folks that are hoping that the pope's visit in september might save the church. tell us more about that. >> reporter: that is right, vai. a big part of the fate of this church and this building here lies with the vatican, whether to tear it down or not. and community members along with parishioners have raised more than $500,000 to make repairs. yesterday members of the church met with city council president darrell clark. the archdiocese wants to demolish the church here on burke street because of structural and safety issues, saying it would cost more than $3 million to restore it and bring it up to code. now, some of the parishioners and the city council president believe that the upcoming visit by pope francis to philadelphia might be just the thing to save this church. >> probably couldn't happen at a better time. the simple reality is that you know, the pope coming to the city of philadelphia in a couple of months and having this debate at this particular time is proba

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live in the digital operations center. matt you've been keeping your eye on new video and nfg coming in. what can you tell us. >> reporter: the first night of the city wide curfew ended 2:30 ago. there were no major incidents reported but a few arrests did happen. overall, a much quieter night. the curfew started at 10:00 p.m. at the start there was little resistance. smoke canisters and fired pepper balls into a crowd of 200 demonstrators. that crowd quickly dispersed and there were fewer arrests than monday night. we've been following the police twitter feed. a fire was started outside a library and officers described one group as quote, aggressive and disorderly. right as the curfew went into effect they took the bull horn to address the crowd. >> let's take our babies home. i want to see the maen and women of baltimore show america what kind of city we have. >> we are definitely promising peace tonight. we weren't founded on an idea of destruction. >> reporter: and there were several peaceful rallies held yesterday as w

nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside the church for us this morning. all right, matt. what's the plan for this group trying to save the church now? >> reporter: well chris, there is a meeting tonight at the rec center. that's when members of the church community who are trying to save this building will meet to decide the next step in their fight. now, yesterday some of the members met with city council president darrell clark who has taken a role in trying to stop this church from being torn down. the building has been here on burke street for more than 100 years. the archdiocese wants to demolish it because of structural and safety issues. some members of the community say they don't want that and have spent the past few months raising money for repair. above all, they want the vatican to officially decide the fate of the building before the wrecking ball comes in. >> we're prepared to go the distance in terms of getting some sense of why we can't be in a position to get the vatican to step in and give us an answer as to whether or not we're going to be able to save

"nbc 10's" matt delucia joins us from lower pottstown. the driver who allegedly hit the officer is in custody, is that correct? >> reporter: that's correct. and the officer is doing well recovering mr. his injuries. here's what the lower pottsgrove police chief is telling us about what happened. last night officers were pursuing a man from this area. they get to the intersection of high and moser in pottstown and the car stops. when the officer got out and he approached the vehicle for some reason he felt threatened and fired two shots at the suspect. then the suspect drove off and in doing so hits the officer with his car. now some things are still under investigation at this hour why the suspect was being stopped in the first place and also the suspect has a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. police are trying to figure out if that injury came from the officer's gun or someone else. that suspect was picked up not long after the officer has hit by the car. the officer is expected to be. minor injuries

nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt do you have an answer?>> reporter: well chris, every year thousands of teenagers apply for the summer jobs but there are not enough jobs to go around. the philadelphia youth baptist association it taking applications for dozens of companies. one is bank of america, they're hiring teens and young adults to help with customer service. it's all about giving kids an experience that they can take with them as they enter the full-time market. who the companies are looking for, 12 to 24 year olds who want to work. 18,000 apply for the jobs and there are only half of opportunities in fields food service, parks and recreation parks, hospitality, the list going on. there's a push now to get more employers on board. >> it'sqmh+ not just the money, but it's also the emotional and the -- it takes a village kind of a thing. >> reporter: later this morning, people will be out at suburban and jefferson stations at a massive attempt to get people more aware of the teen summer job crisis here in philadelphia. the cost the to

matt delucia is live outside the parking garage where this all began. this piece of video is an important parse of the investigation, right? >> it's the only thing here that is catching their eye. >> i definitely do not feel safe but i'm trying to watch my back. >> reporter: and this is sparking fear along the district. this van enters at 1:07 p.m., then two-and-a-half hours later the jewelry store victim starts to head for her car. five minutes later the van is seen leaving. the 5 33 men drove her around repeatedly beating her and tasing her they tied her up and dropped her off in a cemetery not once but twice, taking money from her bank account before she was finally able to get because they knew about the party. >> several are saying they are looking for evidence in and around the garage but so far no arrests. now the victim is out of the hospital recovering. and police have been searching for video throughout this area. it's a lot of money and valuables that change hands. so there are a lot of cameras out here that could help in this case. >>> and l

nbc10's matt delucia is live with overnight developments. matt fill us in. >> reporter: police tell us that boy died shortly after 1:30. david alicea jr. crossing the street with his mother near a playground at masher street when witnesses say a driver hit them an kept on going. the mother was treated and released from the hospital on tuesday. police say they need the public's help to find that driver. several witnesses said there were too many in that bar as they went down lehigh avenue. the leads are not very strong. and they need people to come forward. here's a description of the car, a white 2007 infiniti with a moon roof. and there's a $10,000 reward offered for the arrest and vikz. conviction. police are warning drivers to be on alert this time of year especially with more kids being outside. definitely a bad week for children in the area being hit by cars. especially with two hit-and-runs now. and police have their work cut out for them as they try to solve the investigation and police take the first into custody. and try to get more

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live at police headquarters. matt, police say if there's anything to be learned from this it's a warning for drivers and parents. >> reporter: that is right, rosemary. police say with the weather warming up, more kids are outside and they could end up doing what happened in this case running into the street. now in this particular incident police say the driver hit a 4-year-old boy and left him on the road to die. the da's office said the driver's attorney contacted them yesterday. they're arranging for this woman to turn herself in. 4-year-old abdul wilson was hit and killed at 57th and litchfield streets in philadelphia on monday evening. neighbors say there are children playing outside all the time but that is no excuse for running over a child and driving away. >> it could be any one of these kids out here and at the end of the day, it's like you don't have no remorse for yourself. how can you sleep at night knowing you hit somebody's child and somebody's child is dead. this lady got to go on the rest of her l

"nbc 10's" matt delucia just arrived on scene. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: rosemary, i spoke to the fire chief out here. let knee get out of the way. the situation is clearing up. what i'm told is there was a small electrical fire on the second floor of this penndot building and it started in a mechanical room. there's a lot of smoke that was caused as a result. some workers were in here. now i'm being told they were allowed to go back inside and re-evaluate. inside the building they handle the traffic control systems where they manage and monitor all the traffic throughout the region out here. i'm told by the fire chief out here that that system was affected because of what happened out here this morning. again, you're going to see some of these fire trucks moving out of the area. the fire is out and they're trying to get everything back up and running. the lights that you see on in the building, they're running off of backup power. i'm told they're working to get that traffic monitoring system back up and running. we're going to stay out here

that's where we find nbc 10's matt delucia.ice were finally able to get the teen out of the house with a phone call right? >> reporter: and keith, police tell me that may have made all the difference. the scene looks a lot different than a couple of hours ago. this entire area was filled with police cars and right over here, that is the house where the barricade situation started. we'll go to some video right now. when we got on scene, we could see police focused on that house. i'm told that there were plainclothes officers in the area around 8:30 tonight. they saw someone randomly firing a gun at least five times in the street. when officers walked up to that man, the suspect runs into this house on the 900 block of north 11th street. they can see this guy and the other people out the back window. and they refused to come out. now the swat team was brought in. a tactical helicopter as well. i heard officers out here telling residents to get back into their homes and stay off the street and away from this area. and at one point

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live for us this morning with new details from overnight, matt. >> reporter: chris, we've seen a lot less activity in baltimore compared to last night. once that curfew went into effect baltimore city police report there were no major incidents and only a handful of arrests. that curfew on the first night as we mentioned ends in less than an hour and this morning schools will be reopening today. initially once that curfew went into effect at 10:00 p.m. there were still plenty of people in the streets. police used smoke cannons to disperse the crowds. the police commissioner says eventually the clouds left peacefully clearing the streets by 11:00. >> in totality after the city after our curfew went up we've had about ten total arrests. getting reports from the organization that we do not have a lot of activity or movement throughout the city as a whole so the curfew is working. >> reporter: new pictures in to "nbc 10," 150 troopers from new jersey are in baltimore helping keep the peace. sky force 10 was over the state police headquarters in hamilton mercer co

nbc 10's matt delucia is just on the scene and is live outside temple university hospital. matt, what do you know so far? >> reporter: well, chris, two victims are here at the hospital at this hour. one is 23 and the other is 19. they are in critical condition. this is video from the 2300 block of park avenue not very far from this campus. the philadelphia police tell us there was a house party with 100 people. most of them temple units. at some point, a fight breaks out and spills out into the street when the two were shot. the victims are not temple students. one was shot once and the other three times. two suspects are in custody right now. police also found a gun at the scene. we'll be working throughout the morning to bring you information, including how officers were finally able to get the two suspects in custody. there was a bit of a struggle at first. we'll be back in 30 minutes. live outside temple hospital matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >>> new from overnight, a car crash in philadelphia's home ferguson neighborhood sent a driver to the hospital. look at this, the d

"nbc 10" was here where they could see the children playing in the lobby after police say they had been locked in a basement for 12 hours. this happened with four children in all, two boys and two girls, ages 9 to 13. one of them happened to have a cell phone that only dialed 911. that is how they told police. when firefighters got to the house they had to break through a second floor window to get in and get their mother out. their mother spent time at svu being questioned. she faces charges including endangering welfare of the child. as of last night temporary custody was being worked out. they could be released to family members but they won't be going home with the mother at least not for the time being. live in hunting park i'

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is checking out things for us in baltimore. he's live in the digital operations center monitoring new developments overnight. >> reporter: chris baltimore police saying they will work throughout the morning to try to restore order and deploy resources within the city. take a look at some video here from overnight. these are the images that we've been seeing of rioting in the city of baltimore. buildings on fire. you saw massive flames being seen. some fires burned out of control. baltimore police reported that some people were throwing cinderblocks at passing fire trucks that were responding to those fires. this violence erupted yesterday afternoon following the funeral of freddie gray and it's been nonstop ever since. within the past few hours some of the injured officers have been treated and released. the police commissioner called the day's events trying and disappointing while freddie gray's mother called for peace. >> want y'all to get justice for my son but don't do it like this here. don't tear up the whole city just fo

matt delucia is following the latest on the investigation. matt? >> reporter: chris and tracy, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at einstein medical center last night. just behind me you can see the car there. the victim crashed that car into a utility pole while he was trying to get away. the 49-year-old man was making a delivery of chinese food to the 500 area of hill creek park. while he was in the car or just getting out, 12 gunshots were fired in his direction. one of them hit him in the shoulder. he tried to speed away. he crossed adams avenue and went up the embankment and went into the pole. police and paramedics found that man unconscious inside the car. >> right now we're not sure if the victim was robbed. we're not even sure if the victim had exited his vehicle when he was shot. we believe he was either shot while sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle or possibly shot just outside of the vehicle. >> a lot of questions this morning. police you can see are still holding the scene, and in addition to trying to figure out the m
