nbc 10's matt delucia is live at that home on south taylor street. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: vai, firefighters did find one person inside, an elderly man. you can see some of the folks who were displaced from this fire, some of the neighbors. this is a row home area here on the 1700 block of taylor street. you see this block filled with row homes. right there in the middle, that is where this fire happened. just before 2:00 this morning, you might even be able to see some of the firefighters there just behind the cars. they've been going through, trying to determine the cause of this fire. take a look at some video we shot early on when the fire activity was still going on at the scene. search and rescue crews showed up and found that man dead on the first floor. as i mentioned, the fire is still under investigation. they're still working to determine if he had died as a result of fire or because of something else. at this point, it's unknown if there were working smoke detectors. we spoke with the fire commissioner about that topic. >> every fire is a tragedy. w

nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene. you talked to the fire chief. what's he saying right now?> reporter: well, the fire commissioner told me that they are still investigating the cause of this fire. it happened just before 2:00 this morning. i'm going to step out of the way, show you the scene right now. you can see some of those firefighters and the investigators going through that home piece by piece, trying to figure out what started this. they had search and rescue crews get here early this morning, right after the fire started. they found an elderly man had died. he was found on the first floor of this home. in fact, we have video from earlier when the fire was still under way. the fire is out at this point. but of course, there are homes that are neighboring this unit. it's in the middle of a road on the 1700 block of taylor street. so there are several people who have been evacuated from their homes. we did talk with the fire commissioner. here's what he had to say right after that. >> right now the occupants of the units next door are out until we verify that everythin

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operations center. you've been keeping an eye on drama that's been unfolding in the house chamber throughout the evening. what are you seeing? >> while you were sleeping, several democratic members of congress were not. many of them are still up, continuing their protest. take a look here. this is a little bit of what we have seen in the last 30 minutes. one after another, the democratic rank and file have stepped up to speak about gun control issues, urging republicans to hold a vote. just before 3:00 this morning, republicans did hold a vote, except it was on funding regarding the zika virus. that led to the house adjourning until after july 4th. democrats held a news conference after that vote to continue the fight. yesterday morning georgia congressman john lewis started this whole thing. he started the sit-in. he's upset that four gun policy measures failed to move forward on monday. lewis and some of his democratic colleagues say they will not end their sit-in until there is action on gun control.
