nbc 10's matt delucia is live in northeast philadelphia. gh what happened, matt. >> you heard right. we're talking about a crossbow shooting here. we're on the 3100 block of willits road in northeast philadelphia. this happened last night about 9:30. i'll step out of the way here. there's a hazmat crew doing cleanup here at the home. there was a lot of blood involved. you see the crime tape in front of the home where this happened. police on the scene here, they showed up to find the woman in the doorway of a neighbor's house. she was bleeding heavily from the chest, taken to aria torresdale, rushed into surgery but died a while later. from police gathered from the scene here, this was a violent and usual crime. >> the bolt from the crossbow penetrated her body, went through the crouch and was in the wall. >> from what they've been able to learn from neighbors, the man has been going through some issues over the last month or so. and police tell us they have been called to the home here a couple of times recently for domestic violence issues

matt delucia is live in the digital operations center with more. att, this is such a sad story. >> absolutely, vai and katy. family members say they can't believe their own loved one could do something like this. now, wednesday afternoon, police in miramar, florida, they responded to a 911 call and found sophia hines' two young kids, 7-month-old and 3-year-old unconscious. hines admitted to holding a sheet over the mouths of both children, suffocating them. hines is from our area, living in the frankford neighborhood of philadelphia. we spoke with the father of the infant boy. he said he had no idea hines was in florida and when or if he gets the chance to speak with hines one on one, this is what he wants to ask for. >> all the trouble, all the things we've been through, all the people in your life, why would you do something like this? >> sophia hines is due in court later today. the boy's father says he's trying to get down to florida as soon as possible. >>> live in the digital operations center, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >>> a bus driver faces

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at camden. rutgers where the doors just opened. att, what kind of turnout are they expecting in the garden state today? >> vai and tracy, the weather isn't too bad. that is certainly a good indicator for voter turnout. looking back to the 2008 presidential primary race, actually hillary clinton won the new jersey primary that year. but she did not go on to win the presidential nomination for the democrats that time around. of course it's very different in this election. of course, you also look at the turnout numbers then. it was only 11% altogether for democrats and republicans. it will be interesting to see if more people come out for the 2016 primary. of course with new jersey voters, there are still more races going on here than just the presidential primary. you have also congressional districts that are up for grabs. there's still a voice given that democrats in new jersey also award their delegates for the president proportionately. it's not winner take all. according to recent polls, though, hillary clinton has been showing

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us in trenton. tt, tell us how new jersey is taking up the gun control debate. >> we've seen a bit of this across the country over the past several days in the wake of what happened in orlando. now we're seeing that fight come here in new jersey. those lawmakers we're talking about will gather here on the steps of the statehouse in trenton. they'll have supporters with them and try to get more members of congress on their side. their goal is to pass stricter gun laws. congressman frank pallone and congresswoman bonnie watson coleman are working on this. they want republicans in congress to support laws that would ban people on the terrorist watch list from buying guns along with laws to ban assault weapons and require identification for online sales of ammunition. congressman pallone, he argues that thoughts and prayers after a shooting is not enough. there must be policy changes. in the most recent gallup poll finds 55% of americans are in measures. here on hand as well for that news conference. mat

nbc 10's matt delucia is following the latest developments from the digital operations center. att, what has happened in the last few hours that you can tell us? >> first off, katy, the victims, some have been identified. 18 of 50 of last count. the crime scene is still being processed. federal agents have surrounded the home of thesuspect, 29-year-old omar mateen. this is in st. pierce, florida, a little more than 100 miles away from orlando. neighbors were worried that mateen's unit could be booby trapped. there had been talks that this man had already been on the fbi list. police say as we mentioned just a moment ago, mateen called 911 just before the attack pledging his allegiance to isis. his ex-wife spoke out last night, calling him, quote, violent and bipolar. >> i was devastated, shocked, started shaking and crying because more than anything, i was so, so deeply hurt and heart broken for the people that lost their loved ones, the families that are now suffering, the people that are wounded that are healing. >> now, tonight at 6:45 a vigil is being plan for the victims of

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at that home on south taylor street. matt, what can you tell us? >> reporter: vai, firefighters did find one person inside, an elderly man. you can see some of the folks who were displaced from this fire, some of the neighbors. this is a row home area here on the 1700 block of taylor street. you see this block filled with row homes. right there in the middle, that is where this fire happened. just before 2:00 this morning, you might even be able to see some of the firefighters there just behind the cars. they've been going through, trying to determine the cause of this fire. take a look at some video we shot early on when the fire activity was still going on at the scene. search and rescue crews showed up and found that man dead on the first floor. as i mentioned, the fire is still under investigation. they're still working to determine if he had died as a result of fire or because of something else. at this point, it's unknown if there were working smoke detectors. we spoke with the fire commissioner about that topic. >> every fire is a tragedy. w

nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene. matt, officials say the victims were waiting on the fire escape before they were pulled to safety. tell us what happened. >> that's right, tracy. right now we are on yarnell street and west 3rd street. the fire crews left within the past 15 to 20 minutes. that is the house right there and some of the damage there. you can see some of the charred remains of the right side of that structure there. it's a three-story building here. you can see some of the fire escapes we've been talking about there as well. firefighters say six apartments and 12 tenants. the first responders when they showed up, they pulled five people out of the fire escape, including two adults and three children. >> all the victims that came out over the third floor with our assistance came out under their own power. they were brought to crozier for evaluation. >> some good news there. no serious injuries. as we take another live look here, that fire is out. the red cross has been helping about half dozen of the other

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us in camden this morning where polls will open in about half an hour morning, matt. >> good morning, vai. we have several congressional races going on here in new jersey. these are the folks who are going to represent you in washington over the next couple of years. now, new jersey has had an impact on the presidential race in earlier elections. you might even remember back in 2008, hillary clinton beat barack obama here in the garden state's primary. of course she did not go on to win the nomination that year. much different scenario this time around. voters in new jersey will be casting their primary ballots today and, of course, there is more at stake than the presidential race. yesterday i spoke with kelly ditmar, a professor on political science here at camden. she says new jersey is more prominent the in the area of presidential fund-raising.ç there are 16 superdelegates in the guarden state. you heard about those, bernie sanders trying to get them to sway their vote. sanders has been hoping for the superdelegates to shift their allegiance. more

matt delucia is showing us this eye in the sky bringing relief to new moms and dads. matt? this hospital just got a $5,000 donation yesterday to add a couple of cameras and in return, take away some separation anxiety. >> tiring. >> reporter: emily mcnichol just brought her son colin home. he was born in april. he spent 180 days in the nicu. >> very difficult to leave the hospital without them. to have that option to be able to see them anytime you want when you can't be there is fantastic. >> that option is this. an angel eye camera that hovers over the newborn, a sort of baby monitor at the hospital when parents can't be there 24/7. >> i was using my phone, the tablet. i was using the computer, anything, anytime. >> reporter: emily was one of the first to use the camera at holy redeemer, just hours after it went up and running, thanks in part to kelly gallagher, her superhero project got the funding to install 15 cameras at the hospital, something she wishes she had. >> the camera idea came from a google search that i had found that i realized would change a lot of lives.

matt delucia is at st. mary's. matt?> they got a $5,000 grant to install these cameras in the nicu. this is called angel eye. a woman from our area has been on a mission to get these cameras in every hospital they can. kelly gallagher started this superhero project two years ago after the birth of their twin boys. she researched a way for parents to keep an eye on their newborns anytime they want. she started with holy redeemer hospital this past april with 15 cameras there. i think in 10, 15 years it will be the standard basic care. then they realize it's not just mom or dad, it's the entire family, these cameras will change the way that health care is served. >> almost all of the funding for this comes from çdonations. sometimes online. other times in person, at benefits. coming up at 5:15, i spoke with a mother who just gave birth to a new baby boy. she got the full advantage of using part of these cameras when her son was born premature. we'll hear from her coming up in the next hour. live in langhorne, matt delucia

matt delucia is on scene with details. >> trichis happened around midnight. we have since learned the mcdonald's has re-opened. i'll show you where this all happened, right by the menu board there. that's where the victim ended up. he died here at the scene, on the 200 block of west main street in norristown. a witness toll us off camera as we take a look at video from earlier, the witness says that two men were chasing this victim on foot and shot him about ten times. police haven't told us anything about suspects or a motive at this point. as i mentioned we're still waiting for more official details. you can imagine with a business like this, there's a convenience store attached next to it, they may have something in the way of surveillance cameras that investigators are looking at right now. as we take another live look, again, we have seen some customers going through the drive-through lane since then. they took down the police tape. business is back open here. again, no word on an identity of this victim or any suspects at this point. but of course we'll

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us in the digital operations center.there was a lot of planning that went into this funeral service. >> absolutely, vai. i don't know if you know this but muhammad ali helped plan his own funeral, all over the past decade. he wanted this to be open to the public and people of all faiths. thousands gathered for a muslim prayer service yesterday. you see right there. and now today, the good-bye to the greatest will begin with a procession that will move slowly through ali's hometown of louisville, kentucky, including a final trip past ali's childhood home and the ali center. 18,000 people are then expected to fill a basketball arena where ali will be eulogized by former president bill clinton, billy kristol and broadcaster bryant gumbel. >> he stood for strength. he wanted to encourage everybody to do the same. >> here's something. tickets to the funeral service today were gone within an hour. muhammad ali passed away last week at a phoenix hospital at the age of 74. live in the digital operations center, matt delucia, nbc

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at the scene in northeast philadelphia. matt, what are you learning?>> police say this weapon is typically used for hunting. now they say it's been used for murder. we're on the 3100 block of willits road. the woman even ran next door looking for help. this after she was shot in the chest with that crossbow. take a look at video, this happened just before 9:30 last night. police show up to find the woman in the doorway of the neighbor's house bleeding heavily from the chest. she was rushed to aria torresdale hospital, rushed into surgery but died a short time later. from what police were able to find and gather from the scene here, this was a fairly vial enand unusual crime. >> tit penetrated her body, wen through the couch and into the wall. >> the suspect was the victim's boyfriend. he was arrested without incident. so far, they have learned from neighbors that the man has been going through some issues in the past month or so. we'll hear more about that in the next hour. we asked police about that. for now we're live in northeast philadelphia, matt

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at a polling place in camden this morning. tt, walk us through today. >> tracy, before yesterday, and all those numbers you just mentioned there about hillary clinton reaching the number of delegates needed to be the presumptive democratic nominee, it seemed that new jersey was in a position to help decide who that democratic nominee would be. now, a couple of notes for new jersey, we'll go over a few of these right now. there's still a voice for those in the garden state right here. new jersey does award their delegates proportionately. it's not winner take all. but according to recent polls, hillary clinton has been showing a double digit lead over bernie sanders here in the garden state. here's something else. there are 16 so-called superdelegates in new jersey. they are the people within the party who can vote at the convention, however they wish. most here have already said that they would vote for clinton at the convention next month. but two big names, george norcross and his brother, donald norcross, up for re-election

nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us at that scene this morning with breaking details. matt, what's the latest? >> well, vai, we're on the 1700 block of taylor street. i'm going to step out of the way. just within the past few minutes, we started seeing what you're seeing here. the firefighters rolling up their hoses. the fire has been out for a couple hours now. they're getting ready to clean up all this. several roads in this area have been blocked off as a result. we're next to 24th and morris. this area has been impacted quite a bit as a result of this. trying to get everyone packed up and out of here so people can get their cars out for work or school, wherever they're heading today. first we'll tell you about this fire here. you see right there, it's in the block of row homes here. one man was found dead on the first floor. this fire started just before 2:00 this morning. take a look at some video where we were here soon after the fire started. the occupants of the homes nearby, they were able to get out unharmed. first responders, when they got here, they searched

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in our digital operations center following what's happening right now inorlando and matt, we're also hearing that someone from our area was at the club, just before the shooting. >> that's right, katy. i've been keeping an eye on a website, that is updating with a list of victims who have been identified. i just checked now 21 of the 50 dead have names to go with them. new video also just in to our newsroom with flags at half-staff around city hall and center city philadelphia. governor tom wolf, he ordered the flags in the state to be lowered in honor of the victims in orlando. now in the past several hours we've seen countless candle light vigils across the country, including orlando, like this one that you're seeing right here. all while investigators are trying to learn more about why. police have swarmed the home of the gunman, 29-year-old omar mateen, authorities say he was known to the fbi before the attack and had been looked at by agents within the last few years. he was a licensed private security guard in florida. and state records say that he h

nbc 10's matt delucia is live there in norristown. matt, what are police telling you? >> tracy, we're still trying to get more information from police as this investigation continues to unfold. what we can tell you, in the last 30 minutes police have wrapped up their work on the scene. i'll step out of the way real quick. this mcdonald's parking lot was filled with police activity about a half hour ago. we've just been told by police that the mcdonald's convenience store here that's attached to it is getting ready to re-open within the next few minutes or so. you can see right there by the ordering menu there, that's where the person was shot. take a look at video we shot earlier this morning. this happened around midnight. this is on the 200 block of west main street in norristown. a witness told us off camera that two men were chasing the victim on foot, shot him about ten times. police here haven't told us anything about suspects or a motive just yet. as i mentioned, we're still waiting for more official details about how all of this unfolded. again, as we take anot

nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene in chester. matt, what have you learned? >> that's right, tracy. five people were rescued from this house that's just behind me. we're at west 3rd street and yarnell street. the fire department crews are still on scene at the moment. you can also see the damage to the house here. chester fire telling us there was a heavy fire on the second floor when they pulled up. firefighters say this house has several units, six apartments and 12 tenants. they pulled out five people from the fire escape including two adults and three children. >> all the victims that came out over the third floor with our assistants came out under their own power. they were brought to crozier for assistance. >> the fire marshal meantime is here trying to figure out how this all started. i just spoke with one of the tenants who lives in this apartment building. we'll have that sound coming up for you in about 30 minutes. for now i'm live in chester, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for the update. it's 4:04. >>> the national weather service will deter

nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene. you talked to the fire chief. what's he saying right now?> reporter: well, the fire commissioner told me that they are still investigating the cause of this fire. it happened just before 2:00 this morning. i'm going to step out of the way, show you the scene right now. you can see some of those firefighters and the investigators going through that home piece by piece, trying to figure out what started this. they had search and rescue crews get here early this morning, right after the fire started. they found an elderly man had died. he was found on the first floor of this home. in fact, we have video from earlier when the fire was still under way. the fire is out at this point. but of course, there are homes that are neighboring this unit. it's in the middle of a road on the 1700 block of taylor street. so there are several people who have been evacuated from their homes. we did talk with the fire commissioner. here's what he had to say right after that. >> right now the occupants of the units next door are out until we verify that everythin

matt delucia is live on scene, this is in norristown.the victim's body was found in the middle of that drive-through lane, right? >> that's right, tracy. the police have left the scene. they have taken down the police tape a little more than a half hour ago. where you see the menu board, where you place your order, that is where the victim's body was found around midnight, the 200 block of west main street in norristown. this mcdonald's is attached to a convenience store. we've since seen people go into that convenience store, but now through the drive-through. witnesses tell us that two men were chasing this guy on foot and shot him about ten times. police have not told us anything about any suspects or a motive just yet. and we are still waiting for more official information about how all of this happened. the victim died right here on the scene, right there in the drive-through lane. we did see investigators taking photographs in the area of that parking lot. but, of course, as the morning continues, we're hoping to get some more of t

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operations center to walk us through what happened.this is just so tragic. >> absolutely, vai. sophia hines is charged with two counts of premeditated murder. her family here in philadelphia is talking about the shock upon hearing what happened. wednesday afternoon police in miramar, florida, a suburb of ft. lauderdale, they responded to a 911 call. they found hines' two young kids, a 7-month-old and 3-year-old unconscious. investigators say hines admitted to holding a sheet over the mouthsç of both children suffocating them. hines is from our area. she lives in the frankford neighborhood of philadelphia. we spoke with the father of the infant boy. he said he had no idea that hines was in florida visiting a relative he had no idea about. some family members believe that hines suffered from postpartum depression and may have stopped taking her medication. >> you really just can't judge a book by its cover. because we never, never, never would have expected her to do this. because the way she loved them kids, we still can't believe it.

nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operations center. you've been keeping an eye on drama that's been unfolding in the house chamber throughout the evening. what are you seeing? >> while you were sleeping, several democratic members of congress were not. many of them are still up, continuing their protest. take a look here. this is a little bit of what we have seen in the last 30 minutes. one after another, the democratic rank and file have stepped up to speak about gun control issues, urging republicans to hold a vote. just before 3:00 this morning, republicans did hold a vote, except it was on funding regarding the zika virus. that led to the house adjourning until after july 4th. democrats held a news conference after that vote to continue the fight. yesterday morning georgia congressman john lewis started this whole thing. he started the sit-in. he's upset that four gun policy measures failed to move forward on monday. lewis and some of his democratic colleagues say they will not end their sit-in until there is action on gun control.
