but matt dolan had a very professional, very well resourced campaign. the things i want to say about matt is he could have ran an ugly campaign, but instead he ran a campaign about issues, about substance. he's been a great public servant for this country and i think our party was better for the campaign that matt dillon ran a muscle thank you, matt -- matt dolan ran, so thank you, matt. [applause] i want to say some thing about mike gibbons, one of the great business leaders in northeastern ohio, a person who has given a lot to our party, given a lot to charities all across the state of ohio. mike ran a campaign as a normal guy from ohio who just want to do it the lives of ohioans better, and he did a great job. thank you for the campaign you ran, and god bless you. [applause] jane -- jane, the state party chair for years, who dedicated her life to elect thing republicans up and down the ballot in ohio, rainy spirited campaign. she ran a campaign focused on the grassroots. it is important to put the people first when you are running a campaign for you

he has 10,000 votes over josh mandel, and also matt dolan who is the least trumpian.shed himself among the other candidates mike given and also jane timken, because he says to put the big lie behind them, and the party has to stop talking about it. and so, trump won by winning all of the small counties, but at the moment, you can see josh mandel winning in those small rural counties and jd vance is winning the others. we are counting the votes as we go, and here is 20% of the vote. so a long way to go in the count. if matt dolan can pull it off, it is going to be interesting, because this is what we will watch. franklin county is the largest population-wise in the county. it has the state capital columbus, and matt dolan is in the state capital, and you would see where the establishment is in and around the capital. and look at the margin in franklin county so far. we are at 12%, and if this margin holds up, he can add some margin and come back. that is columbus. and then his family owns the guardians and he is well known in the cleveland area, and this is one of dona

, matt dolan 23%. he was the anti-trump, there was perhaps some sign that he was surging late but at the end of the day j.d. vance basically blew out this field in a somewhat wider than expected victory. >> again, if you add up the first two people who were wildly pro trump you get yourself over 50%. >> well over 50%, you get somewhere in the mid 50s and really the only truly anti-trump candidate in the field matt dolan back at 23% and then there was jane timken, she got less than 10% of the vote. >> let's walk over to another wall to try to get a sense of how the trump endorsement did help j.d. vance. >> this is the ultimate sign. if you look at this polling share pre endorsement for j.d. vance, where was he at? he was at just 14% of the vote. look at the vote share in the actual returns, 32% of the vote. stuff like that does not happen by accident. something changed in this race and it wasn't that all of a sudden j.d. vance became j.d. mandel and basically became someone else. no. what happened was j

manld ma mandel 18%, mike gibb gallons 13 public school, matt dolan 11%, jane timken 6%.undecided column, look at that, 25%. that actually leads the field at this point so we're not exactly sure what exactly will happen tomorrow. >> what does history tell us? >> this is, again, something i just want to note in terms of when we see this polling data, look, it's instructive as to who is probably ahead here, but this is primary polling errors in the final poll, the margin between the top two candidates which was five points, it was five points in that fox news poll. the average error since 2000 plus or mines 8 points. that is 5% of the time we may get a polling miss of plus or minus 22 points. there could be a big blowout tomorrow, we are not exactly sure. and when you look and you say, okay, you know, matt dolan back here at 11%, he could still win. that's a possibility given the past polling errors that we've seen with this 95% confidence in a poll. >> even at 8 points anyone could really win at that point. >> yes. >> the trump endorsement, j.d. vance really, really wanted

it's gonna be an interesting story to watch tomorrow night, watch matt dolan, they'll be a really striking story. now, the bigger context here, is that while ohio is a red state, that has been trending more republican, it is not mississippi, or alabama, or wyoming. donald trump won ohio comfortably, he won by eight points, not particularly close but not a blowout. also, ohio has a democratic senator who is just reelected to his third term in 2018. whoever wins this open seat this year will be serving with him. so to be clear, whoever wins this primary tomorrow, they are absolutely the favorite to win the general election in the fall. but nothing is guaranteed. you do not have to go back very far to find examples of republican primary voters elevating candidates who completely collapsed in the general election. in 2010 who is christine o'donnell, of i am not of which fame, who came out of nowhere in the public and senate primary of delaware, o'donnell the tea party favorite beat out former governor mike castle, who >> do you think, at some of high-level republicans have suggested, that for

he's attacked matt dolan in the last couple weeks. he issued statements. ne candidate he does not want to win this primary. dolan is the one candidate who has condemned donald trump over his actions on and around january 6th. he said that trump perpetuated lies about the 2020 election. and there was a moment in a debate between all of the candidates when they were asked, raise your hand if you think that donald trump should stop talking about the 2020 election, one candidate raised his hand. he has earned the ire of trump. and there's some indications of the polling in the final days of this campaign, of movement in dolan's direction. it's interesting if mandel, gibbons and vance, if they split up the vote. does it open up a lane for the one candidate that donald trump has identified as the candidate he does not want to win this primary. that's a dynamic that's been introduced in the final couple days of this campaign. that's one we will keep a close eye on. it's a jumbled picture. one other race to keep an eye on, the governor, the incumbent, mike dewine.

and moderate republican matt dolan is having a last-minute surge.o the test during the primary. to see if he is actually a kingmaker when selecting candidates. this race has also shown how contenders like dolan are willing to go against the grain. and carl out trump instead of bowing down to him. what is your take on this particular senate primary? >> that last point rev, is an important one. because dolan, unlike what we saw in the unction race for governor of virginia, is actually leaning a little bit into the trump narrative. making it very clear that he is not going to play that game. what's interesting is that, to your point, he has the gun to show some energy, some growth in the polling. j.d. vance also had that growth as well. and so it makes this race not just competitive from the numbers, but really competitive from where the republican base will ally itself. not just that typical base that shows up, reverend, but more importantly, whether or not they are able to pull out voters who typically don't play in primary elections. -- always have

he was magnanimous to everybody including matt dolan. what do you make of that? i guess it meant like guys like portman rallied around vance. >> reporter: he put out a statement and said he's behind vance. in the republican electorate, he walks away with about 22%. he was the only candidate who said he would not have objected to certifying joe biden as the winner in 2020. that is where there is a reality here within the republican party. even look at the likes of mike dewine and the secretary of state who, you know, had been surrounded by some figures here. he was thought of at one time as being a little bit more of a protector of the old guard. but he was ultimately on the rally stage two weeks ago with j.d. vance and with donald trump. here in ohio, the land formerly of john kasich is very much in the donald trump wagon now. >> i want to play a little bit of a clip from tim ryan. he has a ton of money to run against vance because the left is not j.d. vance's polarizing, it means it should help ryan spend some money. he's already spending it. let me play a clip

met a man here who said he was deciding between mandell and the dark horse candidate right now, matt dolan trump. so this race is all over the place. >> when the polling leader is undecided, you know you're going to have an interesting tuesday. jesse, thank you. >>> and now to an investigation into president trump's influence in the last election. in fulton county, georgia, a grand jury has been selected as part of that probe into the infamous phone call between then president trump and georgia's secretary of state, where trump is caught on tape asking him to find more votes. this special grand jury won't have the ability to approve indictments, but can subpoena individuals. covering this for us is correspondent blayne alexander, so take us through the process today. >> reporter: the process today was very quick. it took about 90 minutes to sift through about 200 people summoned for this. they sat 23 jurors and 3 alternates. but as for the process over the next year, it could be rather drawn out. again, they have the power to meet for a year, and they're going to focus specifically on this

and you can see, i'll give you an example of it right here, cuyahoga county, this is matt dolan, the one candidate trump said he did not want winning this primary. this is dolan's base. dolan is leading here. when we were looking at numbers out of cuyahoga numbers, dolan was crushing vance. margin was 20 points. now the same day vote has come in, vance has moved that into single digits. that's great to be in dolan's backyard doing that well. suburbs just north of columbus, ohio, bedrock republican suburbs the place that dolan wanted to win and get big numbers. instead vance looks like he's on the way to outright winning delaware county. hamilton county, cincinnati, vance grew up in the area here. you can see he's leading in hamilton county, cincinnati right now. so actually geographically a pretty expansive victory for vance. again the numbers sitting at 31%, more than 70% in. i wouldn't be surprised if it ticked up a little more that vance number before the night is over. also, if mandel ends up running second ahead of dolan, wouldn't be surprised by that either. but bottom line, jd

however matt dolan, little ways down the list there he got a little bit of a surge as well. kind of been to the former presidents winds. what is that saying about the ohio landscape and wet may be to come? >> well i think the main takeaway from that poll is the leader. it wasn't j.d. vance, it was a candidate named undecided. voters still are not sure who they want to vote for, there is this 25% chunk that's undecided. especially when you look at margins of error, 3% either direction. this is a candidate field at the top that is really muddy and it's because you have vance, mandel, gibbons and taken are all fighting for the pro trump elaine. so the question is where are those undecided going to break? if they break primarily for vance, that's good for him and i think that's why they're hoping the tremendous meant does. but dolan is sitting there making a different bet saying i think all of those folks are going to sort of tangle up at the top and split a large piece of the pie but a piece of the pie nonetheless. the trump voter. and dolan is hoping that there is enough looke

almost all of these candidates, the big exception was matt dolan, sought trump's endorsement and cateredmaker. vance, obviously, as you say, the man who got trump's endorsement. when you look at the map, the maroon counties are the counties that vance won. there's breadth to his victory geographically cheer. but where he really ran up the score, i'm going to draw roughly a region here, this portion of ohio, this is the appalachian region of ohio. there's 31 counties there considered part of appalachia in ohio. it's where donald trump did the best in the general election in ohio. it's before donald trump did the best when he ran in ohio's primary back in 2016 against john kasich who was then the governor of ohio. you take a look at some of the counties in that region, and they were j.d. vance's best counties here. this is portsmouth, ohio, vance up 50% here. you look around the region, vance up 40%. the areas that were sort of the core trump areas in ohio for the very beginning for trump back in 2016 is where j.d. vance ran the best. i think there's evidence there that the trump endorseme
