abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live along highway 101. t got some new details on the driver. hi, matt. >> reporter: hi, good morning, jessica. i do have new information on the driver. also have new information on the victim. i was told by the chp that this is an elderly man who was hit and killed here on southbound 101 just past the oyster point boulevard on-ramp to the freeway here. and we are told that the coroner is here and they're taking away the body, so all lanes will be open. the on-ramp will be open as well. the chp also told me new information, correcting an inaccuracy from earlier. the driver was just giving a friend a ride. he was not working for a ride hailing service. he hit something on southbound 101 but continued on to drop off his passenger in millbrae, turn back to the scene, unsure if he hid a pedestrian or animal. he didn't find anything and eventually called 911 just before 3:15 this morning. that was 45 minutes after the chp says he hit the person. he ended up meeting the chp at the hall of justice in san francisco.

matt keller is live at the restaurant. >> what a mess here. they still have caution tape up to keep people away. and they have the fire hydrant here that was sheered off. you can see one of the pieces broken off during the crash. then you have the newspaper stand that was knocked on its side. but this isn't even the worst of it. check this out. this is the restaurant, all this damaged stuff on the ground, and then when you come up to the door, they put up a sign saying somebody mistook us for a 24-hour drive-thru restaurant. we apologize for any inconvenience. check out the video of the vehicle behind all this damage. the red suv crashed into los gatos cafe early sunday morning. driver was taken to the hospital. she was stable. firefighters were on the scene checking out the structure. the entrance is severely damaged. the restaurant is usually open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is known for its big breakfast. a speed limit is only 15 miles per hour on this stretch of north santa cruz avenue at the edge of downtown los gatos. no word on if s
