maureen-- >> reporter: julie, freemont police this afternoon released this photo. they want everybody to be on the look out for this man. they say he's on the run, extremely dangerous and everyone who sees him should not approach him but call 911. police have issued a warrant for alexander diaz. they say he was behind a van and intentionally ran over a motorcycle officer. diaz ran off, they aren't sure if he's still in the area or headed to his home in southern california. >> it would be unlikely for him to stick around too close to freemont because everybody is outlooking for him. we did get a no bail warrant for his arrest for attempted murder on a police officer. so he knows that he's wanted. >> reporter: police won't say how they identified diaz. investigators were at san jose's regional medical center this morning showing the injured officer a photo line up. police say 43-year-old officer patrick brower is in pain but recovering and could be released later this week. >> i talked to him this morning, he's in good spirits, he's under a lot of morphine. he had ex

ktvu's maureen naylor with new information from investigators, maureen. >> reporter: gasia, freemontpolice issued a warrant to release this man. they released this photo this afternoon, they say the parolee tried to kill one of their officers and may be headed to southern california. the suspects name is alejandro diazen parol for grand theft. diaz stole this delivery truck then intentionally ran over a freemont motorcycle officer who spotted diaz on warm springs road. >> someone should know who he is or have contact with him, please call your police department. don't try to contact him yourself, he's obviously a very dangerous person. >> reporter: police also released a photo of the injured officer. 43-year-old patrick brower, the husband and father of three is recovering of a broken leg in san jose. his colleagues say that it's a miracle brower survived. >> it's a miracle he survived he voiced that to me this morning. >> reporter: investigators were at the hospital to show officer brower a photo line up. it comes after an associate of his was detained last night at the south hay wa

ktvu's maureen naylor is there where san jose firefighters were called in to assist. maureen? >> ken, we are standing in font of the saratoga manor apartments off new hall street in santa clara. the 30 or so people who live here sanity stay here tonight because there is fire damage and no power. most of the damage starts at the roof. the four upstairs apartments behind this were severely burned. but thanks to the help of neighbors everyone got out safely. jeanette peered into what has been her home for the past six years. firefighters warned her apartment was one of the worst damaged. >> i know he said it's bad. but i told my friend, i said, well, it's not as bad as what we think. but it's worst. >> reporter: firefighters say the fire started at 12:45 this afternoon. this cell phone video was taken shortly after. >> we first saw, like, the back building over there just big black smoke and, like, really red orangey flames. and we were just so scared. >> we started knocking on the door. i didn't know. i was cussing at everything like get the out. just get out, get out. >> report

joining us to talk about it is maureen costello. thank you so much, maureen, joining us to talk about this. such an important issue. i want to get to your documentary in just a moment. first, we have seen the cases making the news in recent weeks and that does not often tell the whole story. how common is aspect gay bullying and the sued that results? >> anti-gay bullying is extremely calming. 9 out of 10 students report being bullied every year rely's where and gay, anti-gay bullying, by the way s not restricted to gay students. straight students are often the victims as well and we don't know if the numbers are worse. the suicides have drawn tag to the problem and think more parents are coming forward and admitting their children are gay or where were the targets of anti-gay suicide. >> and your documentary bullied is coming out at a appropriate type, it seems, with all of this news. we have heard of five suicides just in the past month and related to this. who knows how many more were out there. what is the message behind it? >>
