i have found my place here and i have mentioned, i began my career here in 1996 with mayer brown. i realized then in my 20's that i needed to pursue higher education. and it helped the mayor said he would never give me a raise or promotion on till i went back to school. i enrolled in the university of san francisco law school. i got my j.d. and pass the bar. -- passed the gar. -- bar. [applause] san francisco has been my home. six years ago i was married here on the steps almost six years ago to this month. [applause] some are clapping, some are not. i am going to start with mayer brown, who became a friend a long time ago. has always been a supporter, someone that i trust his counsel, and his support has been meeting all -- meaningful to me. kamala harris, a wonderful friend, one that i met telephonically initially as i was considering coming to san francisco. from day one, we hit it off. your support, friendship, and your endorsement meant a great deal to me. gavin newsom, there is not much i can say. i would not be here but for gavin. he offered me the opportunity to come here to be the chief of police. at the time when we worked together, i could not have asked for a better mayor. you were there to support, you never micromanaged. you provided the tools for me to get the job done. as we were talking about replacing a mutual friend, someone i supported greatly, because i believe she was the most qualified person to be the attorney-general in this state, we started talking, and the offer came up, something quite unexpected. frankly, i have to think about it. it was not something that i was ready for. b

[applause] you know, as we celebrate filipino history month, we recognize the filipino history that is inextricably a part of our city's history. and during the historic struggle that we kept seniors -- remember those years where we stood on an alliance to protect our senior residence of the international hotel. we still had that legacy here, as we still a contract with residents of that hotel south of market. even today, i am proud, having stood on that that line and still fighting for justice and social causes to help wit

i just wondered why did some of those events in the last year mayer brown you still stand by that statementon the muslim brotherhood in the secular organization? >> i didn't make myself clear in that statement clearly obviously, and that is a danger of the sound bites and all that sort of thing and the subject appearance i try to clarify that what i was referring to was to that point behavior with the political system to participate in elections and this sort of thing. it's scholars and middle class people, but to the point is going to be for us the sheep in wolf's clothing remains to be seen and the other related parties there's a wide spectrum on the political parties that have emerged on the upheavals have gone on in egypt. this is something we need to watch very carefully. there been calls for the treaty with israel and not surprisingly israel was very concerned about that and i was not as precise when i made the statement a year ago about the muslim brotherhood as i should have been. >> thank you for your response, and another question about egypt as well i sensed that mubarak was over
