they are taking on a proposed mcdonald's. arturo santiago live in west san jose with why they want to take matters into their own hands. >> reporter: good morning. there are a number of kearns. their biggest complaint seems to be focused on a mcdonald's staple, the drive-through. nearly 800 neighbors signed the petition with the intention of keeping a mcdonald's restaurant from opening. a lot of the residents believed that mcdonald's wa derail efforts to fight childhood obesity and others concerned kids would run across the street and it would take business from nearby restaurants. they can't stop the mcdonald's from being built but might be able to keep it from having a drive-through. they have denied a permit for the drive-through leaving the final decision to the city council. >> that's where the traffic problems comes up, the risk to kids comes up and where we lose our ped neighborhood and the ease of getting in and out of this parking lot which only has these two significant entrances. >> this site is zoned and permitted
