mike mckee who is our editor is here now with some comments from rafael bostick.ind of the first of t speak of the week. >> he's first out-of-the-box for a very busy week of fed officials, basically saying that inflation is on a path, i'll be a bumpy, to the 2% target. they just need to keep going in that direction. the fed is tight at this point and they do need to adjust policy downward, but the path and how fast that happens isn't clear at this point because there are a couple of things on both sides. howhe had some interesting examples. that suggests we are losing some steam in the labor markets, but also the number of jobs openings that were reported in those reports earlier in the year that were so large trying to parse te noise, how has this affected the pricing of what markets think the fed will do in december and in 2025? >> markets are basically back off the idea that there is a certain path. the market in preston before the last meeting 100% chance of a rate cut in december. that has gone away and add to about 65% and of course that will get bounced aro

let's go to washington and michael mckee at the federal reserve.alking about this hawkish cut. what does our hawkish cut look like? michael: [laughter] well, scarlet, what they want to do is convince people they are serious about inflation. even if they are going to puase, they want to let -- pause, they want to let the markets know they are still on the job. hawkish cut would look like a 25-basis-point cut, would be very surprised if that is not what i'm telling you what to :00. we will see changes to the statement that has to acknowledge that inflation is higher than they anticipated. they may change the wording of the statement to suggest a pause is ahead, which they will justify in the summary of economic projections by saying inflation and unemployment forecasts are going up, and then of course we get the dot plot and the dot plot will tell us, because as of today they think they will make next year. all forecasts valid until january 20. scarlet: that's an important point, there is an expiration date for these forecast. what will likely be the

mike mckee made mention of this.t i mean is, there is an unconscious bias going on as to happen to inflation. born out of 10 years of post global financial crisis of low rates, low growth and no inflation. what continues to happen is the natural behavioral response is impairing the ability to see what is actually happening. what i believe is actually happening is that the disinflation, a big chunk of what we got was down to china's economy rolling over harder than anybody anticipated. and, a normalization of supply chains. now that those are behind us, the other thing but was born out of that was goods prices coming down. what you will see in the cpi's goods prices are now inching back up. when you talk offline to street sell side economists i think they are wary of the fact when they look at the basket -- when some things are getting better, some things are getting worse. lisa: before you keep going, there's a question of how offsides markets are -- offsize markets are. where you see the most offsize? justin: the bi

jonathan: i will do what michael mckee would do, defend the federal reserve. moment for bloomberg surveillance. i think the data gives the fed cover and if they did anything wrong it is the unemployment rate shooting higher. they got it wrong on the labor market. things have turned out to be ok and i think the data gives them the cover two if they want to. they can say it was there and it was not there. lisa: this is the reason why they are telegraphing it now and the reason why summative people believe it is baked into markets. we will be on hold and will be more cautious and we are doing it for obvious economic regions. the beige book covered it. it came in strong with people increasing optimism. confidence picking up postelection. you did not see that inflationary picture, you did not see people accepting higher prices. jonathan: the data is more than convenient, it is perfect. it gives them a reason to slow down at a time they might need to. they don't know how close they are to neutral. everybody is guessing. looking ahead to next year, completely depends

here is michael mckee was data.t number of the year that matters. it is taking a minute to come up come price index on a month basis up .1%, even less than forecast. the forecast was for 2/10 which is what we saw last month. headline 2.4%, up a tick from october but not as bad as forecast. the court up just 1/10. and year-over-year core up to .8%, same as last month. no increase even though an increase was expected. personal income of .3% and personal spending up .4%, a little less than anticipated but does show people are still involved. this is an interesting number because jay powell gave us the numbers the other day that we didn't all buy into it. it is most important number because it is the fed number for the target and yet by the time we get to it, everyone knows where it is going to be. jonathan: it will breathe some life into the bonds, we are down right now. the two-year it down to 4.25. equities inflating a little higher obsession lows. we are down on the s&p by just .5 on the s&p. the euro session highs.

here is michael mckee. but we get 146,000 jobs found by adp during the month of november. that is a significantly lower number than the 223 they had found the prior month and we only got 12 out of nonfarm payrolls. we will see what happens when we get the number on friday. a lot of questions about how much noise is in the data and we will see a rebound or not and apparently we saw something of a rebound in adp but not huge. jonathan: a lot of economists have done the work in the kind of rebound we can expect. how much of that will come from hurricane disruption, and strike sending. are we looking for a number around 100 k in a snap from those two readings alone? michael: we could get 100,000 in terms of a snapback. that will fluctuate this week as additional details come in. we had 30,000 people who were out on strike will be added again. the question is how may people were out of work the weeks that we saw the hurricane effects in the south. and how many of them have been able to go back to work. and on to
