we begin with breaking news tonight, we're getting reports from mcpherson square in d.c. that a police officer has been hurt after a fro tester apparently threw a brick at him. you're looking at some video of an officer being helped off the ground of mcpherson square. we were told by u.s. park police that an officer was hit in the face by a brick. we don't know if this is the officer, he's being helped into a car and then whisked away. riot team on scene, people are not being allowed on to the grounds and there's about 100 or so gathered on k-street. we have cameras in that area, but a u.s. park police officer hit in the face with a brick at the occupied d.c. site. this comes after this morning park police officers going in and doing some endorsement activities to clear out some of the campers who may have been in mcpherson square. >> reporter: as a helicopter hovered above, mounted police and others in riot gear moved in on the ground. and demonstrate foors assembled their own -- after some pushing and shoving, confrontations didn't escalate much beyond that. soon metal

of course we saw some violence over at mcpherson square. things were very orderly and quite calm here at freedom plaza. this morning all is quiet. we did have one protester kind of walking around screaming loudly but that was pretty much it. there has been no major disruption here at freedom plaza. police are patrolling the area preparing for more inspections later this morning. the checks were orderly as i mentioned at freedom plaza sunday as crews and hazmat threw away any tents that posed a health risk. that includes the protesters' medical tent here. one man was arrested but s.w.a.t. team officers on standby never had to mobilized. since occupiers can no longer sleep here, many are staying at area shelters and churches. >> it was important for us to help them because we feel that they've been helping us so much in terms of spreading the message of the inequality in our nation. >> reporter: saturday as you may remember, 11 protesters were arrested during a police crackdown at mcpherson square. one man is now charged with felony assault a

news4's megan mcgrath joins us now from mcpherson square. >> reporter: it really does look a lot different. where i'm standing used to be covered, pretty much every square inch, by tents. can you see most of the tents in fact here at mcpherson square have been removed and the enforcement effort continues. let's pan over here and show you live here, you can see police officers are removing a tent that was here along right at the base of this tree. they went inside, they looked inside. there were some personal belongings and things which are against the rules. they began to remove this tent and there was a dead rat inside, a couple of live rats came scrambling out as they began to take it down here. now you can see that things are very different, not the same situation as what we were seeing on friday. frankly, the folks who work in this area are really hoping the people we talked to today that things are going to soon get back to normal. park service workers emptied crash cans in mcpherson square this morning. their job is easier than it has been in months. gone are most of the occupy d.c.
