meg baker is live in mineola at the nassau health department headquarters. meg? >> reporter: chris and mary, positive for the meek mosquito- born zika virus. two of the patients are said to be in new york city, one in monroe county, one in orange county and one here in nassau county. the zika virus has been linked to a birth defect where babies are born with small heads. it's being spread by mosquitos throughout latin america. so far, it's not been found in any mosquitos in the u.s., but the types of mosquitos that could potentially carry the virus are found in this country. in fact, in warmer months, those mosquitos can be found in regions where 60 percent of americans live. that's about 2 hundred million people. nyu's dr. tara says doctors here are bracing for the likelihood of more cases. >> out of five women, only one exhibits symptoms so the other four don't have symptoms and may still have been exposed and may still develop defects in the fetuses and the the fetus, we think, is relatively high. >> reporter: she says some people infected with zika virus have

. >> meg baker is checking out road conditions in newark for us. meg, how are things out there? >> the travel ban has been lifted in newark. i'm not sure how anyone can get their cars out or drive down these side streets. we stopped down here to show you this view down the street and believe it or not this is one of the clearer roads here. now school is closed today. city hall closed and garbage we'll drive ahead for you. we are in a residential section of downtown newark. most of the main roadways are clearer. check out the side streets. many of them don't even look like they've seen a plow yet. you can see we're shaking a little bit because it also is pretty icy here. a woman stopped and was chatting with us, telling us it took her over on hour to get her car out. she had to get herself to work. further down is second and third street. there are a lot of elderly who live there that feel trapped because the roadways have not been plowed yet. maybe they saw one plow but then it snowed again. these roads are bad. to give you a sense of where we are, we're close to rutgers univers

cbs 2's meg baker joins us live from manasquan where residents are worried this evening. meg. >> reporter: chris and kristine, we're standing next to the inlet. you can see point pleasant across the way. this is an extremely flood- prone area where the ocean meets the bay and the manasquan river isn't too far off. so the mayor is telling residents they have to be alert of this forecast. the sunshine, the ocean flat and many residents walking with the calm before the storm. it may cause to us ask for voluntary evacuations. >> reporter: manasquan's mayor is hoping the three-foot berm on the beachfront is enough to prevent a major crisis like superstorm sandy. >> the army corps of engineers about a beach replenishment a couple years ago. supposedly we have enough to protect us from a 100 year storm and this will be below that threshold. >> reporter: the public works department was busy security property near the inlet a flood-prone area where the bay meets the ocean. the river is also a potential hazard. >> if we get a nor'easter which we're talking about, usually this whole

. >> meg baker joins us live now. meg? >> good morning. we are here standing right in a drift now. this may look like it's all snow but it's not. underneath here just a few inches this is all sand right here that was due to all of those high winds yesterday. eddie behind the camera today a little bit nicer conditions here. this is the wind we experienced on the beach. lots of snow from the three foot berm on the beach here creating these large drifts but the real story is this flooding. last night we do have pictures of the flooding that there was ice floating in the water down fourth avenue, first avenue near houses that were not raised after superstorm sandy and it was all caused because of the high tide. standing right next to the inlet here where the ocean meets the bay and it was a dangerous combination of strong winds at 50 to 60 miles per hour that held this water in the inlet. with the first high tide yesterday morning and again last night around 7:00 p.m. because of the winds the water got trapped in this inlet and officials are nervous that's going to happen again this mo

meg baker has more. >> reporter: the blizzard has hard. the big story now are the winds. and we've been warned about flooding. take a look behind me. this is the inlet. the water already coming up over the bulk head. this is the fist high tide of the day and this is powered by the full moon. so it is a dangerous combination of these very strong winds mixed with this lunar high tide that is going to cause major issues here and down the shore. over to this side there is the beech front where these houses basically sit on the beach front and there is only a three foot berm of sand protecting those homes from the impact of the storm. we're expecting waves up to 12 feet high that could really create more damage along the coastline. the winds are really whipping down here. on the jetty behind me. governor christie has issued a state of emergency. that means no one should be on these roads. you can see very low visibility here. it is awfully slippery. it is freezing and as we go through the day this flooding is only sure to get worse. >> meg baker in manasqaun new jersey. even t

cbs 2's meg baker shows us what happened. >> reporter: you can see in this surveillance video it was a wet rainy night in bushwick, brooklyn. a woman carrying her groceries home on bleaker street towards irving avenue jumped from behind by two men. >> she told me the other day around the corner from here two skinny guys, i don't know. >> reporter: we spoke to the woman's neighbor who saw her right after the attack that 27th, around 7 p.m. he says she was shaken but luckily unharmed. he can't believe this happened only steps from their apartment building. the video shows the two men throw the 45-year-old woman to the ground stealing her bag with $600 in it. the men ran off towards irving avenue. police say the suspects not only grabbed for her purse, but grabbed at her neck looking to rim off any jewelry she was wear -- rip off any jewelry she was wearing. >> a couple weeks ago there was a shooting right here on nickerbacher avenue. you just got to be careful. if you're walking at night, walk with somebody else. >> reporter: collin mallory says he sees nypd circling the area a lot. >>
