megan mcgrath joins us with more on this story. megan, good morning. >> well, good morning, eun. just ask people who ride metro about the escalator systems and you'll get an earful. of course now the recent accident had focused on the safety of these investigators. you can see two of the three escalato are currently out of service. actually, there are nearly 120 escalators that are out for repairs at this point because of yon going inspections and prbs that have been found with these escalators. now the westinghouse modular 100. there have beenproblems not just in washington but other transit systems as well. as far as back as 1980, the department of transportation identified problems with the handrail system. on new year's eve back in 2007 there was a similar accident in atlanta where an escalator accelerated throwing people to the ground. of course that's what happened at the l'enfant plaza. it shows the prax on the escalator failed causing it to accelerate and throwing them down to the bottom of the escalator. now according to transportation experts the modular escalators, thi

ne four's megan mcgrath is live there now with details. megan. >> reporter: good morning, eun. just a very frightening situation for this mother. she was here at the metr station, it was the height of rushhour, 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning. the woman was trying to get on board a train with her young child. she was able to wheel the stroller onto the car, but then the doors of the train actually closed before she could get on to the train. the train then pulled away from the station, leaving her on the platform, her child in the car. now, there were a number of passengers who saw all of this unfold, realized what had happened, they contacted the driver of the train. at the ne stop or at the fort cotton stop the passengers got off with the baby, they met up with police, and officers watched over the child until the mother could arrivethere at the fort cotton station and they could be reunited. so the child was fine. everybody ended up together at the end. but a very, very scary situation as the mother and child were separated for a bit during the height of rush hour yesterday morn

good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. unfortunately i think we have all seen those speed cameras. they're operating at work zones like these ones, they're on vehicles along the road and snap pictures of cars speeding by. on sunday afternoon, a driver going 80 miles per hour claims to have caught one of those speed camera vehicles speeding right past him. he pulled out his phone and started recording. the vehicle was with the state safe speed going down on 70, for at least 10 miles showing no signs of slowing. at one point when he got close by, he saw the speed vehicle slam on the brakes and then keep going. >> they think they can't get tickets, they can't get in trouble, because they're the ones issuing the tickets. it's messed up. that's the only reason i took the video. if it was a ups truck speeding, i wouldn't have really cared. >> reporter: the vehicles are owned by a project company that administrators the state program. state highway officials tell us they are addressing thish to ensure that this doesn't happen aga

. >> reporter: megan, thank you. good morning. we are a few minutes away from daylight here in the parkville area and throughout areas around baltimore. a lot of people are come out to see the -- coming out to see the damage from the scene. we are four hours into this as this struck between 1:30 and two this morning. they will find downed trees and power lines across the area. some people have come out surveying the damage, walking up forest avenue this morning here in parkville. they are taking a look at everything they can see. tops of trees have been blown some 15 yards across the way, knocking down power lines as well as street signs. the real sign right now for us is this tree off the house at the intersection of oakley and forest. you can see uprooted and blown on the back of the house. now just two houses down, there is a tree that has fallen on top of a house. the family there had to be evacuated by emergency crews. some dozen fire and rescue crews are out here going to hot spots. throughout the morning, we have been talki
