megan mcgrath is live where crews are working on the third street tunnel. >> reporter: aaron, take a look behind me at all the construction barrels lined up here. shortly, the barrels will be pressed into service as they close this intersection down. it's part of a larger constructionproject. they are going to be building five new buildings eventually over top of the third street tunnel. that construction can be begin, there's a lot of preliminary work that needs to be done and that's what is going on here. they are relocating underground utilities an t area of massachusetts avenue and h street in northwest between second and fourth streets. take a look at some of the areas, some of the roads that will be affected here. lane closures from 7:00 a.m. until midnight. we're talking about the intersection of third and h streets. that intersection will be closed while this work is being done. eastbound h street is going to be redirected to massachusetts avenue. westd h street is going to reopen in the old layout allowing travel directly to mass avenue. also expect sidewalks in these constr

megan mcgrath has the latest on the student's condition. >> reporter: the student is in grave condition, fighting for his life in an area hospital. he is 17 years old and a student here at wheaton high school. police thought this was a basic hit and run. he was struck by a chevy avalanche near the shopping center at viers mill and randolph road in wheaton. the driver did not stay on the scene. just a few hours later, the driver and passengers in the avalanche turned up at the police station and gave their version of what happened. police say there may have been an altercation between two small groups at the shopping center, which led to the 17-year-old being struck. they're looking into the possibility that this may have been an intentional act. investigators have not been able to talk to the 17 because he is in grave condition can. they just have the one account from the people in the avalanche. so they want to get an independent account of what happened. so police are looking for witnesses, anyone who may have been at that shopping center between unique thrift store and burger king ar
