i'm thinking of my mentors and how rarely i have a mentor that look likeke me. the pressures i felt to perform especially for supervisors i perceived expected less of me as an african-american. and think of the conversation with his sons and not responsibility from his nomination. so to take up the condoleezza rice challenge she put forward for each individual american. and as she asks us to do and i know african-american four-star had ever been ryconfirmed into a service chief in the united states military in the history of our country. and then to get data on minorities of the senior enlisted in the military and hispanic americans they are patriotic segments of theenf population. and then more than any other ethnic group in the country with a special patriotism. a patriotic service reflected at the highest ranks of military. i suspect those that are reading in the ranks like general brown all outstanding african-american generals that i've had the pleasure of serving with like vincent brooks for the centcom commander to have insightful views on these matters.

have never hada black mentor because they weren't there, but i have had some great white mentors in speciales. throughout the military, for many, many years. there are a lot of officers who feel tha if you're a black general, they it it because of affirmative action and you aren't smart enough. i remember when i first became a brigadier, they used to have this saykning, i don'ow, it's called general. i didn't know that many general officers, but i got a lot of comments that said not smart enough, not smart enough. i went to a general and i sad, what the heck is this? he says, don't worry about it. s d, i don't eve read those things. he said, that's what a lot of aren't smart enough, but we are smart enough. enlisted ranks have always been the worker bee. they're the ones who perform the labor, get the troops in line, get the troops on time. get them to the mess hall, get them bac they have always been working for white offionrs. any occasions. the enlisted lks have been accepted, because they are not under the officers. they're not office erth they're lower caste basically. >> schifrin: maj
