again, lake merced has a billion gallons of capacity. additionally, tie into the existing line in the richmond district and other areas. just one future possibility. we are also looking at other water source, which i will get to. so, what are the next steps? complete rigorous reliability analysis. environmental review, with the planning department. we will begin design work for option 12, including a thorough review of components, pump, valves, etc. by the agencies. we are specifically going to look at pipeline alignments. one of the things we are going to look at analyzing richmond district pipeline. so, currentsly one east/west pipeline. so, we are going to look at having two east/west pipelines. for example, we could have one that runs on cabrio and another down california or clement street. so we will report back to the supervisors and other people. we are also looking at the exact locations of the north/south runs, so, right now the conceptual option 12 has the north/south run on 22nd avenue. perhaps more sense for 20th or 18th aven

this is a photo that i took when i was visiting there alongside the merced river. it's really striking to look at pictures of the same place over time. again, i think the first week of this course we looked at some of these same images. this is the photograph taken from the same location near the merced river but taken in 1865 by carlton watkins. what you can see in it, a little difficult, the trees are in the way. you can see there's a big meadow in the back. some coniferous trees, but a lot of oak trees and willows. it's a much more open landscape than what we see today. similarly, we can look at paintings from the 1870s. this is by albert beerschtott. he's done a little fancy footwork with the sides of the valley. they actually don't match up. if you look at a photograph today, you'll realize this side is about five miles west of this side in his painting. but what's interesting about this painting is, again, it's showing us the ecosystem of this landscape in the 1870s. which again is meadows in oak woodlands with a few coniferous trees. a real contrast to the l
