let's bring in michael allen, former special assistant under president bush. good morning to you, that was one of the most hostile press conferences i've ever heard from a country that was attacked and the media is questioning war crimes that took place against israel. what do you think of this? >> that was -- display. i knew some point there would be blame shifting on to israel, but i can't believe it is already happening. i heard these suggestions that the israelis were going to commit war crimes because they need to go after terrorists in gaza. i thought it was outrageous and speaks to latent antisemitism, which i believe is in all sorts of quarters across the globe. >> carley: why do you think the narrative is forming that israel, although having just experienced horrific terror attack against its people, they are the ones in the wrong for defending themselves? >> yeah, it is just ridiculous. right of self-defense is absolute. we the united states after 9/11 went after al qaeda everywhere we could on the globe, beginning in afghanistan and of course israel

i want to bring in michael allen. he was with the bush administration, national security advisor staff and now works with global beacon strategies. great to have you, michael. one of the things that trey was just discussing is the fact that the israelis are figuring out a way to push back hard. they didn't ask for this but they are going to fight it as if they are going to win it. now what do you think about this as trey just said now you have rocket fire coming from the east, not just from the north? >> there is a nightmare scenario for the israelis. they want to make an incursion into the gaza strip that is severely complicated by rockets coming over the northern border. a two-front war and complicated in gaza there is israeli and american hostages. it will complicate the force with which israel uses to go into the gaza strip. so a lot of problems for israel going forward this morning. >> dana: one of your questions this morning that you are trying to puzzle out is how involved was iran? what is your thinking today?

testify against trump, there are many who have -- aren't many who have as much dirt on him as michael cohen. >> allen weisselberg is the keeper of the financial skeletons, the people who met decisions inside for trump organization with donald trump's blessing or people like allen weisselberg, jeff mcconney, jason greenblatt. michael cohen was a fixer and an enforcer. he had some knowledge of real estate, so i think trump would consult him about what kind of devices they had used to inflate his assets. so he's a material witness. i think the lesson, though, of michael cohen is that he's the latest in a parade of people have turned on donald trump and donald trump has spent decades in competing one white loyalty among the people who surround him. he had corrupt them, or they are easily corruptible, and now he's landed in a series of courtrooms we are people who have advised him are now turning on him. michael cohen was on display doing so today. but it's also happening in a georgia case with jenna ellis and sidney powell, and i think that trump is getting progressively put in a corner by this dynamic.

donald never came out and said specifically, michael and allen, i want to inflate the numbers to be 6es. i wrote about it in my books. donald trump speaks like a mob boss. what he does is he says, you know, i'm actually not worth $5 billion. i'm worth 6. why don't you guys go and figure it out. that's not specifically telling us. so, the answer is, my statement to congress is actually accurate based upon the specific language that was asked of me. but what it didn't do -- and it does it later on in the document -- is it goes ahead and it talks about how he directed allen weisselberg and myself to go back to allen's office and figure it out. >> and you knew what that meant. so, you're saying, he didn't say, michael, go inflate my assets. what he said was, hey, michael, my net worth is 6 billion, go figure it out. you're saying, it's the same thing, but in terms of the wording used in the question, that's why you answered it differently? >> exactly. he directed us in order to do it. the only way, of course, to do it is to increase the value of the assets in that statement of financial c

allen weisselberg and michael cohen both have been to prison because of donald trump. so they know what they're talking about, and weisselberg to stay out of prison has to tell the truth. your thoughts, tim? >> i'll tell you a story about allen weisselberg. i went to trump tower in 2005 when donald was asserting his holdings were $6 billion. i had sourced around him who knew his finances intimately who said it was a fraction of that amount, well less than a billion dollars. when i went to allen weisselberg, the exercise was to prove to me it added up to $6 billion. i was there for most of the afternoon. allen was sitting across the table to me with a yellow legal pad. he gave me all the valuations. at the end, i took up my calculator and added it up. i said this only adds up to $5 billion. he looked perplexed and said i'm going to go to my office and find that other billion. that's basically how these guys rolled day to day forever. trump inflated his wealth because he is a deeply insecure person about his own business prowess and his own track record. he saw it as a s

threw out a number, i'm going to say i'm worth $a 5 billion and instructing michael cohen and the chief financial officer allen weisselberg to reverse engineer the numbers. cook the books and a have it add up. that's so braise and so nefarious. if you're doing it only because you're chasing tabloid headlines, that's one thing. but michael cohen made it pretty clear in both his congressional testimony and i'm sure in his trial testimony that, no, this was to secure bank loans. it was to secure insurance for his properties. this is years long fraud. in one sense, this is an opportunity for donald trump to confront his accuser through his lawyers. you get to confront and cross-examination, the witness who is are testifying against you, but in another sense, this really feels like a moment where michael cohen gets to confront his tormenter. michael cohen paid off play mates and porn stars for donald trump at his direction and for his benefit, and who goes to prison. michael cohen. i have always maintained that's a deep injustice. not that michael cohenen went to prison for his crimes, but that donald trump has not

michael cohen, again, we've asked this. is he a credible witness in this case? he's not donald trump's, you know, he's not allenberg. >> sure. it depends on who you ask. the reason i say that, a broken clock can be right twice a day. if you're looking at michael cohen who at some point was entrenched with donald trump in such a way that led him to find himself behind bars, that doesn't mean that he's not someone who knew and knows about the inner workings of trump world in such a way that he can provide honest, truthful and credible information, and so as a former prosecutor, i can tell you you seldom have a witness that does not have challenges or complications with on the stand. it is not something you're unfamiliar with if you're tish james' office. you're prepared for it. the information he's providing is something that he's known, that he would have been in the position to know, and that he's telling the truth. everything else is background noise, and that's what they're going to try to make it seem like. >> he's testifying under oath. charles coleman, always good to have you. nice to see you in person, es

played taped depositions from trump, his sons, his former attorney, michael cohen, and his company's former chief financial officer, allencalled their first witness, a former accountant who spent years handling the former president's tax returns. according to our team inside the courtroom, trump seemed to take issue with some of what was being said during the testimony and became extremely animated with his lawyers. his face is said to have become beet red, while his pointed and finger waved at his lawyers. for the most part, though, trump appeared subdued during the trial. outside the courtroom, though, he was anything but. here is some of what he said to reporters during a lunch break. >> when you have a radical left attorney general like letitia james, who is a disgrace to our country, who got elected on the fact that she's going to take down president trump, we're going to take him down. this is called election interference, and worse than that, really much worse than that. you don't get much worse than election interference. i got a call last week, "sir, we lost part of the case." i said, "the trial didn't even star

michael cohen took the stand and gave testimony that really only he can give as the a.g.'s star witness. he described in detail how former president trump directed him and trump organization's cfo allenate his wealth significantly. he described how trump essentially asked them to reverse engineer his wealth, describing how trump would give them a number that he believed was appropriate for his net worth, and then how he would ask them then to essentially make that true. at one point saying he would look at the numbers, they would give him saying it was $4 billion. that was his net worth, he would say, no, i think i'm worth more like 6 billion and have them go back to the office and essentially make that happen by inflating the value of his various assets, his properties, et cetera. now, where we left off yesterday and where we pick up today is the cross examination of michael cohen by trump's attorney, alina haba. yesterday she put him in the hot seat undermining his truthfulness talking about how in 2018 in his guilty plea, getting him to admit that he lied in that guilty plea. the reason that is important is again, she is trying to undermine him, paint him as a liar in front of the
