i want to circle back if we have time about michael brown. hands up, don't shoot.and and media running with that do you talk about that in your book but on this point in your book, which tells a wonderful story but it's also a manual for successful policing and all the logic and, the strategies and the data is here. and you show again and again and that it works and has for hundreds of years. going back to robert peel in the early 19th century in in great britain. and yet we after putting hard work reducing crime, it's succeeding. we then turn back on these strategies and we get into this cycle and you can just see the cycle coming again and again. how do we break that cycle and just maintain our foot on the gas of solid policing? i wish i had the answer to that at the moment, one of the great frustrations not having i'm no longer technically in the business and a longer police chief serve on the homeland security advisory council for the secretary. i stay very active in a lot of policing issues through my. books as well as opinion columns i write tv appearances, c

what was it about ferguson, where michael brown was killed, where you were very involved, that movementk about august of 2014, remember that they not only killed mike brown, but they left his body in the street for four and a half hours while his mother stayed with his body. people came outside just to see what happened and the police sicked dogs on protesters and the police were really violent immediately. we were in the street for 400 days. i think back in 2014, it was like 400 days. and yes, the protest began. it was pretty violent. it was illegal to stay still. i think we did it in solidarity with the 60s but, no, it's illegal to stand still. it's wild. >> you and your fellow leaders were credited with launching the civil rights movement of the 21st century. was there something you also drew from the predecessors of civil rights foot soldiers in their movement or was this about a movement all anew? >> no, for sure we understood that we were not the first people to discover injustice and we didn't invent protest. what we didn't have that people didn't have before us were a set of too
