for the family of michael brown, they have the option of filing a civil suit against officer wilson and the ferguson police department over their son's wrongful death. there has been a lot of speculation about whether they might move ahead. there was no specific word on that. they are keen to advocate for a lawn named after michael brown that would require police officers in future situations like this. that is one avenue for the brown family and on the level of the federal government, violations of civil rights. the violations of racial profiling and the possible excessive use of force. those investigation still ongoing so the story not over yet. we have heard from the white house. is that likely to change? >> obama did come out last night to make a brief statement just after the prosecutor announced the news. they were looking for signals as he might carry this forward. obama was extremely reluctant to get involved. they did not want to appear to be coming down on one side or the other. he did leave the door very much open to taking a little bit more involvement in the story going forward. simple he saying he wanted to wait and see. of course, eric holder w

i'm a grieving mother, and he is my husband and he has been around michael for four year, and he has grown to love him and not as much as i do, but he is going to love him like he does his own children. and so when you are that hurt, and the system has did you this wrong, you may say some things as well. we have all spoke out of anger before. >> reporter: do you believe that when officer wilson first a approached your son and asked him to move out of the roadway, your son's first response was f what you say? >> no. >> do you think that is even possible? >> no. >> do you believe that officer wilson is sthag your son reached into the car and tried to grab his gun? >> no. >> do you think that it is possible that your son told him that you are too much of a p-word to shoot me. >> i don't even believe any of those words were exchanged at all. >> no. >> why not? >> why -- you know why, because my sister had just rolled up the street, and rolled past my son as he was coming down. and just that quick, not even five minutes went by before someone was running to my mother's house saying that m

he has been on administrative leave since the shooting of michael brown. wilson stepped down after he was told his continued employment could put residents and officers at risk. many were upset over the grand jury's decision that cleared wilson of murder charges. the latest protests in san francisco left businesses cleaning up today. kristy smith is in san francisco right now with more on the cleanup. >> reporter: good evening to you. strong reaction to the protests and the violence and vandalism that followed. tonight hearing from people, they said the resignation of darren wilson does not come as a surprise to them at all. today around union square, store workers were cleaning up after protesters disrupted holiday shopping. there was spray painting. police say at least six officers were injured, including an officer hit by a bottle. it was thrown through his car window. today people coming into the city said the resignation did seem logical. >> he would never be able to work in ferguson or anywhere else because of what happened. >> did this surprise you

what happened to michael brown has deeply divided us. whatever is announced this evening, some people are going to be angry and frustrated. and some people are going to be angry and frustrated about that. my message to the protesters, we will protect your right to peacefully assemble and to speak your mind. like last night, we will give you leeway to occupy public safety. and we will listen to your grievances. but turning violent or najing property will not -- damaging property will not be tolerated. to people who disagree with the protesters, the paramount concern, over the next few days we expect to see st. louisans loudly and passion atly expressing their views. we expect some of the best police officers in the country to protect their rights and keeping everyone safe. but after that it will be time to heal. to close the racial divide and to make st. louis a pert place for everyone -- a better place for everyone regardless of race or color. we may all experience some inconvenience over the coming days. depending on the circumstances w
