i'm michael holmes. the united nations says tens of thousands of people have fled their homes in northern gaza over the past day or so after israel's military warned civilians to leave gaza city. that's in addition to the more than 400,000 palestinians who were already displaced by the conflict, forced out of their homes by this conflict. civilians who were able to on friday crammed possessions into cars and trucks in a rush towards the south. those without other options walked, carrying what they could. the u.s. has continued to press the egyptian and israeli governments on opening the rafa border crossing from gaza to egypt to allow people to get out and open a corridor for humanitarian aid to get in. meanwhile, israeli war planes kept up their bombardment of gaza and conducted raids inside the enslave, searching for perhaps as many as 150 hostages still held by hamas. the raids are the latest sign that israel is ramping up operations after hamas after the militant group's terror attacks inside israel

i'm michael holmes with the latest on the israel-hamas war. the israeli military says its bombardment of hamas targets will become even more relentless forward of any other incurrence. israeli troops appointedsed to strike at hamas on a moment's snow. on saturday the idea of chief of staff repeated what they heard all week, we will enter gaza. a spokesman told cnn, it is not a question of if, it's when. >> and the time line, you know, that changes according to many variables in the air and across the sea. the important thing is that the idf will conduct significant military operations in order to defeat hamas, in order to bring our hostages home and in order to fundamentally change the security situation that we have in southern israel and frankly all of israel. i am the confident that decisions are made by those who make decisions in israel in order to achieve both these aims i've said before, to defeat hamas and all other terrorists in gaza and to bring home our people. it is a very difficult equation to square and we are not going to spare

michael holmes reports. >> reporter: out of harm's way.ntries around the world are flying their citizens out of israel on repatriation flights filled with foreign nationals fleeing is israel/hamas war. many of the people leaving israel were there to earn a living better than they could in their homelands. officials in thailand say at least 30 of their citizens have been killed since hamas launched its attack on israel two weeks ago. eight bodies have been returned. many of the dead worked on israeli farms. the thai government says it's working to return the other bodies and also repatriate thousands of thai citizens who want to leave israel. >> translator: the number of thai citizens who wish to return home keeps increasing. we're trying to get thai people back as soon as possible. >> reporter: emotional reunions in manila as a flight carrying filipinos who were working in israel returned home. many of the evacuees were employed as care givers in israel when the attacked happened, and some say they still can't shake what they saw. >> trans
