i'm michael steele and david jolly are back with us as well. michael let's start with you.ked a lot about different vibes of donald trump, and he seems to be kind of in a temporary, behaved mode, i think it's safe to say. where he is talking about people as gracious, thinking their spouses. it's a little awkward. he is basically trying to lure people together. how much does that matter at this point, in terms of the inevitability and bringing the primary to an end? >> the inevitability is inevitable, it's a foregone conclusion, he is going to be the nominee of the party. i think congressman baines and others got that right. the question then becomes, from 16 and 20, how much has trump learned in the art of, sort of, baking the cake inside the party. in other words, there's one thing to get all the ingredients together, something very different when you start to mix them and start to create to give you something you need to be successful in the fall. regardless of all the bravado, he is going to have his hands full with president biden going into the fall. he is going to nee

it comes to the key voters that you need to win a general election, it does not bode well. >> michael steele, mike davis who is a legal adviser for trump and his campaign told nbc news they are turning donald trump into nelson mandela. what do you think? >> [laughing ] that's what i think of that. trump is no nelson mandela, and he has not made one sacrifice for anybody but himself. it's all part of the victimization game, and it's all part about the what if-ism, and it's comparing him to great figures in history where he doesn't measure up to any of them. he wants to get the base rock solid behind him, and he has locked iowa, and he has evangelical voters, and today he's 51% among evangelicals in iowa. that's what trump has been about, finding the tools and mechanisms and tweaks here and there that energized that place and locks them in place so he can steamroll through this process, and use the legal process as a backdrop for his campaign, where he's in washington today, and he's got the motorcade and the sirens and the lights, and sort of this presidential ora about him. he's a criminal.

is where we start this hour with former chairman at the rnc and my cohost on msnbc the weekend michael steele. also joining us is former top official at the department of justice andrew weisman. and former acting solicitor general, it's good to see you all. do you expect the supreme court to pick up this case? >> yes. i have the privilege of filing a lot of requests for the supreme court to hear cases. they often hear my requests and grant them. this is a case that has every hallmark of being granted by the supreme court. i expect it will be granted. the justices are meeting in the morning tomorrow. suspect by the afternoon the court will set a date for the oral argument in this case. it just has gravity and importance in a world in which trump has already been removed from two different ballots in colorado and maine, i think the supreme court has to hear the case. >> there is gravity. there's also urgency, as we noted at the top of the problem. the primary ballot in colorado has to be certified tomorrow. donald trump is on the ballot right now because the state supreme court issued a stay of
