good afternoon, michelle griego has the afternoon off. we begin with developing news this noon on the paris attack. france is launching a second day of air strikes on isis targets in syria, retaliation for the slaughter of at least 129 people. fighter jets have been taking off from bases in jordan, striking an isis command sentter. training camps and ammunition dump in the city of rack ca. one military official says france is taking the lead. >>> meanwhile the city of paris is wracked with grief over friday's massacre. there is mourning in the streets and the manhunt continues for throes responsible. >> reporter: good morning. we are here in republic square this evening in paris. you can see the large group of people gathering here. this has become one of the large makeshift mental morals in the city. it is somber ask people are also on edge, because keep in mind, one attack soldier still at large. >> reporter: thousands across paris shared an emotional moment of silence today, honoring the lives of the 12 killed and hundreds more injured

i'm michelle griego. >> hi, i'm frank mallicoat. is nearly 6:00. >>> san francisco voters went to the polls to decide on several contentious issues including don ford and law enforcement. lisa chan has live at city hall results from yesterday's big election. >> reporter: yesterday voters rejected prop if which is a major victory for airbnb. this would have eliminated the number of short-term rentals to 75 days a year and would require the hosts to live there. neighbors would also have to be notified when a new "airbnb" opened and hosts who break the rules could have faced lawsuits from neighbors and get banned from using the "airbnb" website. over the 55-45 vote prop f did not pass. assemblyman david chu is against the measure and believes the current short term rental law is enough. >> we need time to allow this to go into effect. the measure that was in front of voters today prop f was too extreme. >> reporter: another big race is for a seat on the san francisco board of supervisors. aaron peskin won 54-43. he beat incumbent julie

i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone.:29. >>> happening today major traffic disruptions are expected as the next phase of the massive central subway project gets under way in san francisco. kpix 5's anne makovec is in the construction zone. what can commuters expect? >> reporter: it is going to be a real mess around this area. i'm by the caltrain station in san francisco near 4th and king. this is going to affect drivers and muni riders, as well. you can see construction has begun with some of these roadblocks. it's going on for the next eight days. this is going to be a major junction a connection between the central subway and the rest of the muni system. this is a map of the central subway plan which has been under construction. underneath union square for several months, the closures we're talking about eastbound king street between 5th and 3rd and several blocks of 4th street they are going to be shut down starting at 10:00 tonight. workers will be installing track that will connect existing rail lines to the new sub

michelle griego is off. it's election day in parts of th bay area. >> and with that comes multiple controversial issues on the ballot in san francisco. jackie ward has more from city with a breakdown of propositions f and i. >> reporter: remember guys, next year's election is when the presidential election is happening. right now people in san francisco are focusing on the housing issue so let's start with prop f the proposition that seeks to impose tougher restrictions on short-term rentals. yesterday protestors invaded airbnb's headquarters in san francisco for a couple of hours to encourage people to vote yes on proposition f. prop f would change rules rentals like airbnb, authorizing that taxes are paid and city codes are complied w this is the most talked about proposition on the ballot. >> we have lost somewhere between 10 and 12,000 units of housing at a time when the city is having the worst housing crisis in more than 100 years. most of the units have become full-time tourist accommodations instead

i'm michelle griego. >> good morning, i'm frank mallicoat. time now is 6:00. the college student from santa clara who stabbed four people at uc-merced had written out elaborate plans. he was later killed by the police. kpix 5's keit do is in santa clara with more on what we're learning about that attacker. kiet, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the young man who was a quiet student here at wilcox high school who just graduated a few months ago was nothing like the monster investigators say went on that stabbing rampage down at uc-merced. now, when they conducted an autopsy on faisal mohammad they found a manifesto with a list of people he wanted to harm and planned to tie them up and reading a scripted monologue aloud. he also wrote he was going to try to ambush a police officer and get his gun. the whole plan unraveled when the victims fought back. what's more, in that backpack, investigators found two clear bags full of petroleum jelly. >> it looks likes his intention was to cut a hole in the bag and squirt it on the floor as a slip and slide. >> rep

i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. time now is 5:30. >>> new this morning, alameda county sheriff's deputies fired their guns at two stolen car suspects. kpix 5's anne makovec is at the scene in hayward where a chase ended in two suspects being arrested. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yeah. they just reopened ricardo avenue here behind me in hayward. i want to point out the sign that clearly the man trying to outrun the cops did not see overnight when he ended up in this area. dead end. as frank mentioned, two people taken into custody. nobody was injured. this woman was a passenger in the car. she has since been released. officers tried to pull the car over at around midnight near "a" street in hayward. they believe the car was stolen. the driver didn't stop and a five to eight minute chase ensued ending in this neighborhood where officers say the suspect car got stuck in the dead end backed up on to a yard and hit a pole, and then it pulled forward towards deputies. so those deputies opened fire on the vehi

i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 6:00. and we're going to take you live to the scene outside an apartment that was raided today. it happened in saint-denis a suburban north of paris about a mile from the national soccer stadium that was one of the targets of last friday's terror attacks. here's the very latest from paris now. the seven-hour standoff started at police tried to storm in an apartment where they believe the mastermind of last week's terror attacks was hiding. during the siege a woman wearing an explosive vest blew herself up and exchanges of gunfire injured at least five officers. police say one man was killed and seven people were arrested. authorities made the call to move in after getting word of another attack in the works. >> here in the u.s., two flights heading to paris were diverted because of anonymous bomb threats. an air france flight that took off from l.a.x. landed in salt lake city. at about the same time, another air france flight left washington dulles airport and was diverted to halifax, nova
