i'm michelle griego. the pawnee fire northeast of clear lake oaks and the county fire north of creek casino are still burningthis morning. >> reporter: this fire has exploded since it broke out on saturday afternoon. now almost 33,000 acres, and this morning it is only 2% contained. we'll have an update from firefighters on their progress from overnight at about 7:00. we'll bring that to you. this is new video overnight of the fire, burning in steep and rugged terrain and areas that are sometimes too steep crews and bulldozers. crews yesterday established lines and dealt with shifting winds and triple-digit temperatures. there are more than a thousand firefighters on the scene right now. saturdfterhighway it's areat'st there's plenty of fire fuel. evacuations began saturday night. >> when we put the evacuation orders into effect, people need to heed those because fires are moving faster than they have in the past. so we need to get people out of the fire's path so we can get in and do our job. >> reporter

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. the dramatic cave rescue in thailand has come to an end. >> it's the news everyone was hoping for, the third and final rescue mission over, and it was a massive success. after 17 days of being stranded in a cave, all 12 boys and their coach are out safely. today was the third day of rescue and officials expected it to be the longest. they were also optimistic they could get everyone out. conditions inside the cave were difficult, water constantly being pumped out. but it was still a 2 and a half mile journey from where the boys were stuck to freedom. there was a pinch point, where it's only 15 inches across, and the boys had to separate from the divers to fit through and reach a small patch of drive land before going back down into the water. everyone is in the hospital with minimal contact with the outside world. parents have been allowed to see the boys but they have to stand 2 feet away and wear masks. >>> four people are displaced this morning after a fire in san francisco. anne m

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm emily turner. kenny choi is off this morning. >> the two fires that make up the mendocino complex fire have the entire area under evacuation orders this morning. >> reporter: we are at highway 29 and highway 175 and this area is under evacuation orders. we spoke with a police officer here who said last night you could see flames up in the hills here behind me and could no longer see an orange glow. hopefully that means good news for the firefighters' progress here overnight. at last check this was only 10% contained. we are talking about two fires burning near clear lake. one is west of lakeport and the other is north of the lake. more than 10,000 homes and businesses are threatened right now in lake and mendocino counties. six homes have burned in the mendocino complex fire. about 7500 people are evacuated right now between the cities of lakeport and upper lake, including lakeport's hospital. these are communities that have been threatened several times with wildfires over the last three years. >>

good morning, i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. the carr fire has moved into heavily populated areas in west redding after jumping the sacramento river and new evacuation orders were issued overnight for all of shasta county lake city and summit city. joe vazquez is in redding this morning where dozens of homes have already been destroyed. >> reporter: this fire is still out of control and you can see here in this subdivision in west redding we are starting to get our first look at some of the homes that burned down to the ground. this entire cul-de-sac has every home on fire right now. last night, winds whipped up sending the fire from the outskirts of town into the middle of this more populated area. that's when officials decided it was time for thousands more people to evacuate. >>> reporter: the fury of the carr fire took the town of rebylate thursday as flames jumped the sacramento river and engulfed the area. redding is home to some 92,000 people. >> this is that new normal, that unpredictability, the large explosive growth f

i'm michelle griego. >> good morning, i'm kenny choi. let's start with a look at weather and traffic. >>> it is a little cloudy out there. take a look at current temperatures this morning, pretty moderate thanks to the low cloud cover that's keeping things relatively moderate. you can see the cloud cover there. it's hanging out and keeping temperatures in san francisco currently at 56 degrees as well as in santa rosa, 56. warmer in the south bay, san josi 61 degrees. you can see the cloud cover slowly building in, even through the inland areas starting to see the low cloud cover. it's not going to stick around all day, at least not in those areas. we have low clouds to start and the clouds won't get all the way off the coast. so it won't be the beach day but take advantage of it. averages today are 66, 70, 82 and 87. pretty similar, just a little warmer in the inland areas. that's going to change by midweek. i'll tell you how hot we're going to get later. >>> right now we are tracking some speeds in the green. if you're making your appro

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm emily turner in for kenny choi.m coverage as many of the fires grow in size, leaving a trail of destruction behind. we are tracking the evacuations, the damage and weather conditions. >> the mendocino complex fire is now the combined name for the river and ranch fires in mendocino and lake counties. anne makovec is in lakeport this morning, where the entire area a under a mandatory evacuation order. >> reporter: you can see the skies are very smokey behind me here at the intersections of highways 29 and 175. this fire right now is only 10% contained. we are hoping to get updated numbers from firefighters later this morning, hopefully indicating they have a better handle on the fire. this is two fires burning, one west of lakeport and the other north of lakeport, forming this fire which has burned 48 square miles. more than 10,000 homes and other businesses in lake and mendocino counties are threatened. six homes have burned and about 7500 people have been evacuated from lakeport and upper lake, including sutter lake

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. the manhunt is over an a suspected killer is in custody. police say they have arrested the man behind a random attack at a bart station. jessica flores is live at the pleasant hill station this morning, where officers tracked the suspect down. >> reporter: that's right. this is where the manhunt for the suspected killer ended, here at the pleasant hill bart station. they say he stabbed and killed nia wilson, the 18-year-old. police got a tip and stopped this train here and took him into custody without incident. attacked andlethat and injuher sunday night. cowell got on at the concord station along with three sisters. as they arrived at if macarthur station, he slashed nia wilson's neck and killed her. her sister was wounded. police say he ran off and changed clothes after the murder, and tossed the weapon, triggering a day-long manhunt and leaving bart riders on edge. >> as they were transferring at the macarthur platform, they were approached by an individual with a knife, who struc

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choy. we start with jaclyn with some water problems in the south affecting the roads. >> yeah, water problems. who would have thought? but we have a lane that's blocked with standing water, northbound 101 just past tremble. this is a look at the backup that's developed. northbound 101, slow there in the yellow, close to 40 minutes between hellier and san antonio. it is getting slow with speeds down to 5 miles an hour. that's your cruising speed. once you get past that, things clear up and you're back in the green. that should be blocked about 10 more minutes or so. we'll let you know how that's affecting your ride. at the bay bridge toll plaza, not much of a backup. the metering lights are on and we had a problem with a car blocking the lane before treasure island, so you're in the red there. neda? >>> this view paints the picture of what you'll experience today. cool and cloudy by the coast but it's another warm one inland. right now just a pretty shot of clouds over the pacific ocean. thi

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choy. a busy bay area freeway is back open this morning after a grass fire shut yestday afternoon near 580 over altamont pass. lanes reopened just before midnight. as the flames grew closer to the freeway, chp told drivers to turn around. you can see it created a traffic mess. >> this highway patrol isn't telling anybody to do anything. he's not helping at all. >> he's just sitting there. >> reporter: another user showing how smokey it was when they were finally able to get moving. the flames were just feet from the road. it's unclear how the fire started. >>> new video shows the moment a train and car crashed in san josi, killing two people. jackie ward is following the investigation. >> reporter: vta cleanup crews are still out here, but they are wrapping up this morning following that deadly crash. they were fixing that overhead pole and wires torn down from the car and train careening down the track. they have worked overnight and the train service shouldn't be impacted too badly. aroun

i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm kenny choi. this morning, there's a mass evacuation at yosemite national park as a deadly wildfire inches closer. >> anne makovec tells us now yosemite national park is closing at noon. >>> reporter: what a huge disappointment for the thousands of people who have plans there this week. it is the peak of tourist season. of course, even if people did get in before the closure, the valley is filled are smoke so it's not pleasant. highway 140 is already closed and at noon, officials will close highway 41. that's the route that goes north from fresno into the heart of the park. it's burning close to 60 square miles. the fire is 25% contained and is threatening highway 41. the park service is shutting down yosemite valley including some of its most iconic attractions engulfed in smoke including half dome and yosemite falls. you can't see them behind a veil of smoke. with the closure of the valley at least 1,000 campgrounds and hotel reservations have been canceled. >> we were almost fully booked and no
