let's bring in a philadelphia eagles fan, meteorologist michelle grossman for a talk about the game andve to work tomorrow so i'll be watching that game. >>> forecast, rain moving to the east, unfortunately. we have this cold front that is extending from the great lakes to the ohio valley. parts of the tennessee valley into the southeast. it's going to move off to the east and high pressure is anchored in control in the northeast and it will push this down to the south so much-needed rain in the northeast and one more day we will not get that but rain in the mid-atlantic and carolinas. carolinas, you could see a lot of rain in some spots. we will see an area of low pressure develop off the coast kind of enhancing this cold front. we will see over 2 inches in some spots and gusty winds by later on tonight. then as we go throughout tomorrow, something to be noteworthy, too. winds really picking up tomorrow and that is going to enhance the fire danger once again in the northeast. so dry, to humidity and winds will pick up. here is the rainfall forecast. highest amount through west virginia

nbc meteorologist michelle grossman is here tracking it all for us. go out to nbc's chase cain in little river, california, south of mendocino. what are conditions like there this morning? >> reporter: the rain has tapered off at this moment, but parts of this area have gotten a foot of rain. that's why we're under a flood watch here, half a dozen rivers under a flood warning. we're along california highway 1, the famous road a lot of people know about this, that goes along the pacific ocean. 30 miles south of us, california 1 is completely closed because of flooding. there are some impacts in this area. several thousand people also here in the mendocino and sonoma county area without power this morning. but largely the impacts haven't been quite as bad as we feared, with some of the rainfall totals of 12 inches of ra in.in. there have been isolated mudslides and rock slides and some roads and lanes closed as times. but they have been able to get the roads back open pretty quickly. really so far from what we're seeing this morning, it has been a benef

also michelle grossman track in the forecast. first, tell us what is in store. >> great to see you.mentioned the parade. it did not put a damper on the spirits. we are ponchos on but everybody was moving and grooving. that is where we see our weather in terms of precipitation. if you look at an overall snapshot of the country we are not tracking any block buster storms. it is frigid in some parts of the country. arctic air from canada. maggie will tell you about that but we are looking at temperatures in the 20s or 30s, below freezing, near freezing and many spots. 24 in minneapolis. just at the freezing mark in chicago. we are looking at the chance of strong thunderstorms. also along the gulf coast. some heavy downpours and even the chance of a tornado or two. it is really in the northeast. we are looking good in terms of any travel on the roadways. it's confined to the new england spots where we could see some wind really picking up there. some heavy, wet snow in some spots and heavy rain still lingering. you can see where the cold front is. it sweeps down to the south, but most o
