let's head to the white house and check in with white house correspondent michelle kosinski. michelle you heard john boehner say it paves the way for a nuclear iran this is a terrible deal. what are other lawmakers saying this morning? >> reporter: we're hearing a lot from them. the white house is saying that the president welcomes the opportunity to speak to congress. we know that he called congressional leadership last night. congress is going to be briefed. the president is going to reach out to foreign leaders. he's going to speak to israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu who has been especially vocal in opposite to this deal and the push really starts today. the president stood before the public before the world, and confidently stated that he feels this deal meets its goal of preventing iran from getting a nuclear weapon. listen. >> because of this deal the international community will be able to verify that the islamic republic of iran will not develop a nuclear weapon. this deal meets every single one of the bottom lines that we established when we achieved a frame

i want to bring in cnn's michelle kosinski live in washington for the latest. the president and administration have been working hard for the narrow nuclear deal. he will face criticism for those who say it is hard to have a narrow deal with iran when the united states is at odds. >> reporter: absolutely. even before we got the announcement that this deal had been reached, many in congress have been jumping on not being shy about expressing concerns and anger over some parts of this. some details coming out are very similar to the framework that we already knew about that iran will only be able to have 300 kilograms of low enriched uranium. they have remaining stockpile that is diluted or shipped out of the country. the other is the lifting of the arms embargo on iran. journalists were given in a quick session was that the arms embargo would last for five years for traditional arms. after that sales could commence. for its ballistic capability that would be another eight years. that is something members of congress have been looking at among others. what kind o

michelle kosinski at the white house for us. michelle, as we await the president's press conference, as you look at this, what is the harder fight right now? protecting the deal, securing the votes or trying to tear it down? >> that's a really good question. no administration is going to want to push something through, even though they legally can but have congress adamantly oppose it and fall just shy of a veto override. that's not great for your own authority and your own standing on trying to get something like that through. it's not always a great sign for the future of it, either. here's the thing. congress is going to have to be dictated by the numbers. plain and simple no matter how strongly many are opposed to it, and they are very strongly opposed. they're still going to have to get enough democrats on board to get a two-thirds majority in either house, because if they disapprove the deal, we already know the white house is going to veto it. but that's not stopping anyone from really getting throughout where their opposi

>> michelle kosinski for us in nairobi. thank you. >>> back in the u.s., on capitol hill, a rare sunday vote is expected in the senate. lawmakers have a week to extend funding for the roads and bridges. because it's seen as must-pass legislation, it is viewed by many, as a way to carry unrelated amendments forward. >> reporter: good morning, christi. a tangle over the unrelated amendments that has created an abnormal dynamic in the senate. this started on friday when ted cruz, lashed out at mitch mcconnell, accusing him of lying. he said mcconnell would not allow a vote to authorize the export/import that's wrapped up in the highway bill. mcconnell appears to have cleared the path for it. here's a moment of anger that cruz had directed at mitch mcconnell on the senate floor. >> it was a direct question. i asked the majority leader in front of all of the republican senators, the majority leader was visibly angry with me. that i would ask such a question. and the majority leader said there is no deal. there is no deal. there

joining us now, cnn white house correspondent michelle kosinski. the white house, to say the least, michelle. >> reporter: it is, indeed. it's something of a victory lap for the administration but right now all this criticism is coming in. keep in mind, congress doesn't have an up or down vote on the deal itself. even if they voted in disapprov disapproval, it's not going to destroy the deal. what they would vote on is whether or not to remove the sanctions on iran that congress itself imposed. plus, they would have to override the president's veto. even if they did that, the rest of the countries involved would have lifted their sanctions and the deal would still be in place anyway. so it's a confusing issue, but some of the criticism out there has been pretty harsh already. i mean, things like this deal violates every red line that the administration itself imposed. this is a grievous dangerous mistake for the world. that the goal has shifted from dismantling iran's nuclear program to managing it. some people are going to oppose this no matter wh
