credit ok so micro credit the micro finance just a bit of a review here this is the ability for. low income poverty income people to borrow very small amounts of money. which have a huge impact on their lives and to pay back this these funds over time just like any loan but it has an incredible multiplying effect so if one family or one woman can buy a goat for even twenty pounds and borrow twenty pounds which doesn't sound like a lot but if you can buy a goat and that goat has a multiplying effect because it's giving milk and you can then breed goats and it creates more goats so is that generally the idea that's the idea and the other thing that's very interesting that you mention goats also cows they do with a lot is that there's a quote in the film that says that most women prior to having access to this kind of credit they were worth less than a goat or a cow in terms of their existence their role in the family in the community once they were able to get loans their rules changed and become much more powerful well it's an interesting point because you talk about societies in

what did you cover about these micro beads? >> our organizations began doing research i pepartnership and we found more plastic by count in samples from lake eerie than all of the occasions we have studied in four years. we discovered these beads resemble beads coming from personal care products. so this went to an investigation. we published those findings. this is, in our opinion, is an e egregio egregiousous design flaw. like plastic bins that are designed to go into the recycling or into the trash. these are designed, as heather explained to go directing from the consumer's face down the drain and you heard the impacts of that. so with these findings, we were able to take these to some large managers and engage a grassroots campaign to demand producers eliminate these beads from their products. we have seen a rapid response really nationwide to ending the use of these plastic beads because there are alternatives that are harmless in the marine environment we informed the community about micro beads and that they are used in

micros is an interesting company. it sells point-of-sale systems to hotels, restaurants, and retailers. oracle had acquisition talks with these guys for six years. the deal fell through six years ago. this one is a big deal for oracle. it's biggest purchase since 2010 since it purchased sun microsystems. how will this go? we will try to figure it out. joining me now is brian white and a representative of bloomberg industries. brian, this is an interesting deal for oracle because it is not just a software company. >> about two thirds is services. about 20% is hardware. 10% is software. it is really about the push into the retail market. oracle has had an interest in that. here is the deal. >> what do you make of why they are looking at this business right now? >> the way i look at it is companies like oracle and ibm and microsoft -- all of them are trying to take their applications and move it to the cloud. stuff like this only helps oracle's portfolio of application that they can move to the cloud. they already have a

>> throughout the country, micro corp. -- micro dwelling situations are trending big.them in new york, dallas, austin. there is such a demand for small spaces. i really think the less is more dictum is being played out in a major way by singles all across the country. 33% of new york households are single person household. 35% in boston. over 45% in washington, d.c. what we are seeing in the housing market is a mismatch between available units and the people who want to live in them. this is why the microsoft project, there is a demonstration -- micro loft project, there is a demonstration going on right now. this is actually an amazing thing that is happening. but actually, new york is behind the trend. this is already in place in seattle, san francisco, and in austin. about your is house, your zero project that you've brought the model of. i wonder if you could describe things like the cost and what it's designed to do. micro loft came in just under $950 per square foot, which is really high for new york city, but again, it was so space intensive. 425 square feet. th

this year and i wanted to point out one other metric on the last slide there, is out of 7 possible micro, lbe contract ordered during 2122, 7 of them did go to microlbe and that is great and we have a good trajectory and i wanted to point out that the director made a goal for us to award as a department 25 microlbe contracts and as of today, we ordered 34. so you will see that of those you have got 15, additional, and i mean, i am sorry, 8 additional contracts that are awarded in q3, to micros, lbe set aside and then we will see on the veteran's building seismic upgrade which is right across the street and you probably see the construction going on and the team focused on targeting the specific micro, lbes to have the grade subcontractor as part of that cmg project and so the construction manager, general contractor, integrated project delivery type of contract, and those were a total of 19 and so you will see about 20 million dollars worth of microtrade subcontractors were awarded for the upgrade. nae. that is all that i v >> thank you. >> why don't we call up miss force. >> good aftern

they are in exclusive companies to buy micros, which is a software manufacturer which makes softwares for hotels, restaurants. >> the hospitality industry. if you have ever worked behind a desk or the front office, you are looking basically at a variety of different software vendors, one of them happens to be micros. a lot of it is in the cloud. they have some cloud applications but they are more of a legacy software company. this is something that oracle has tended to steal towards in recent years when they have not enabled to penetrate the cloud industry because of valuations are too high. they've been able to roll out some of these old legacy companies. we are hearing the price tag at five point $3 billion or so. >> breadcrumbs. >> what is the connection between breadcrumbs and micros? it was my understanding that the retail space has come under a huge amount of pressure not only for retail bet any kind of software environment. >> when we founded breadcrumb, what we did is that we were looking at the space. we had a lot of experience in hospitality. part of that was very frustrati

and you will see that in the next slide and we were doing a lot of out reach and focus on educating micros, to be primes because that is a problem, especially in the construction realm a lot are used to be subs and i will talk about that in a second and we conducted that public works, microlbe town hall in november of 2013 and we had a great turn out for that and following up ever since with the microto get them in the mix for the contract awards and i worked with the puc staff on avoiding bidding pitfalls and we did a workshop back in i guess that it was in april, and i believe. april, to talk about or do some education with the contractors on how to do bid document as a primary children's and so again that is some of the pitfalls that they do especially going from a subto a primary children's. and we are going to conduct another one this summer with the puc at the contractor assistance center and so i have been working with their team and also at public works we are going to conduct additional public management and other trainings targeting to bridge that gap between being sub, to becomi

i thought looking at these companies, micros systems never mentioned on this show ever in 3.5 years. to hotels and restaurant. >> an interesting business. a lot of credit card data and data is exchanged. the software is used i hotels to capture data information in the context of an open price deal and now or can is doing a deal where you're getting connections and using the information. your understanding how people are using this. laster's revenues for micros systems were massive air you could take discharges. 1,268,000,000, 85 thousand dollars in revenues. justegg business, capturing data and running the charges for credit cards and doing that software. you go to random hotel sites and the website looks similar. >> why does the deal make sense for oracle at the price? this is the biggest acquisition eventually since the microsystem. >> decides the acquisition, i think one of the things this does for oracle is it rot inside the place. only things, the that left oracle were database theyeers. they decided wanted software in all different kinds of verticals. if you run a factory on so

they also set aside contracts for micro lbes as well. they also offer big discounts so if there's a small business firm that bids on a contract their bid can be adjusted by up to 10%. what that means is that for bid evaluation purposes, the awarding agency or the department would lower the small business bid by 10% of the lowest non sbe bid and they would evaluate the bids on that basis, but they would award the contract at the original bid price so that's an incentive for an awarding agency to utilize an lbe. of course the ocii outline does not have that policy in place. what's also different about the city program as compared to ocii is the way small businesses and lbes are defined. the ocii it's simply defined as a construction firm who's three year annual gross revenues is below 14 million for professional services, 2 million; for supply it's 7 million. for the city, again, they look at a much broader and more -- how will i say -- more defined classifications. so they would define and lbe and three size classifications, one for micro

and it is a real microcosm of a micro climate. happening near the golden gate bridge and the immediate coastline. a result of the hot ef weather pattern building in at the surface. high pressure and stomping out any available moisture in the atmosphere. so that's why we've got drizzle across the golden gate bridge. folks are turning on the windshield wipers. currently clear and breezy with 62 and mainly clear throughout the east bay and checking with colder air with some westerly wind pushing in throughout the east bay. and 54 degrees. so, not too bad right now. but again, tomorrow, start to crank up that heat. as we talked about, we've got high pressure moving in. that typical for this time year as we head throughout june. but the thing about this, is the core of this high pressure, this warm core high, is so extremely strong, it is something we shouldn't even get close to seeing until july and august across the bay area. so we've got that to contend with. the other thing we are dealing with is hot weather across the southwest. t

. >>> now to our micro climate forecast. the hills looking dry. on the right is san jose. rob mayeda joins us now. any chance for rain this week? >> that's what we're watching very closely in our bay area drought conditions as you just saw. the latest drought monitor update shows that exceptional drought has spread to what is typically the wettest part of the state. these areas will likely expand outward as we encounter now the driest stretch of the year. if you look at the rainfall map going from january through december, it's this window that we're in now from june, july and august where we literally see just enough rain to wet the ground. any rain we get this time of year would be bonus rainfall. we do have a weather pattern setting up that could bring a chance of showers our way. right now we seeing showers around eureka and crescent city. some of this is going to try to spill towards the bay area. it's going to bring a big drop in our temperatures, but how much rain will it bring when it arrives later in the week. the rainfall outlook coming up in a few minutes. >>> m

. >>> a lot of different micro climates today. >> we had fog in some locations, full-on sunny skies in a little difference in what we normally have. hayward had 68 degrees. and livermore at 75. the reason why the difference, we've had the onshore wind the past 24 hours. check it out, san francisco, 18 to about 22 miles per hour now. a westerly wind in oakland, also in livermore, that's transporting that cool pacific air right across the bay. that's dropping temperatures dramatically from this time last night when we had 70s and 80s. down into the 60s across the north bay area. san francisco not only the fog but also areas of drizzle. fog building across the east bay, but the two sunniest locations, you can see it on the sky camera network are two of the warmest. of 68 is your average in the peninsula. now for tomorrow we are going to trend just a little bit warmer for the south bay with numbers averaging in the upper 70s. it's going to stay mild by the afternoon in the east bay with 83 degrees, sunshine in the noon hour, and we'll keep the fog and drizzle in san francisco with low 60s.
