middle east. with me now is nbc news national security and pentagon correspondent courtney kube.ght now at the pentagon amid these staffing changes? >> alicia, there's a lot of concern. you know, i mean, look, the pentagon probably more than any other building i would say in d.c. or any other institution in this government is used to transition. you have military members who tend to serve for two years, they're used to changing jobs and moving around like that. but what's concerning about this is just the timing. so we had secretary of defense mark esper fired. it wasn't a surprise he was going to be fired, but the manner in which it's done and the exact timing was a surprise to him and senior leaders in the building. that was about 48 hours most news networks declared that joe biden was the president-elect. then within about 48 hours, we saw a number of other higher-level pentagon civilians resign, some expected like retired admiral joe kernen, but being replaced by trump loyalists. that's what has people concerned here. what senior defense officials who i've spoken with are loo
