[ applause ] mike is a true american patriot.devoted many years of his life defending america beginning when he entered west point and as you all heard, he entered at 18 and he ended up graduating first in his class you know i heard that rumor a long time ago. i thought it with you a rumor. i don't know and i've heard it so many times, i've also heard i was first in my class at the wharton school of finance and sometimes when you hear it you don't say anything and you let it go, but i heard it with him. being first in your class at west point, i know, that's a big deal is that true yeah i asked, i started bringing it up brought it up about four weeks ago right, david, and after that, everybody brings it up i don't have to say it anymore he was actually first in his class at west point. and soon he was deployed to germany where he served a cavalry officer prior to the fall of the berlin wall, after leaving active duty service, mike graduated from harvard law school with high honors, great student. mike was elected to congress in 2

mike, go ahead with the first question. mike: congressman, thanks for being with us. you are in the middle of a whole lot of stories happening on capitol hill. now more than ever. let me start with one of the biggest. you have been one of the biggest critics of the department of justice and how they are handled many aspects of their business recently. you have gone so far as to suggest that the deputy attorney general should be impeached. you and chairman nunez of the intelligence committee have been asking for more information on their surveillance activities and their investigatory activities. can you start out by explaining broadly what is your issue with the way the doj has conducted itself? mr. rosenstein in particular and where do those issues stand at this moment? have they been allayed by some of these meetings that have been entered into in the last few days? rep. meadows: i think probably the issue and to answer your question directly is that we get more rhetoric than we get action. so for us, it is all about getting the documents, making sure that we actual

back to you. >> thanks, mike. 6:02. breaking news this morning, the three american detainees held in in north korea are heading home. president trump tweeted in the last 30 minutes saying, i'm pleased to inform you that secretary of state mike pompeo is in the air and on his way back from north korea with the three wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting. they seem to be in good health and also in good meeting with kim jong-un, date and place set. these are pictures of the three u.s. nationals who were released. they are accused of hostile acts against north korea. one was held before president trump was elected, the other two were arrested after the election as nuclear tensionsed. the president tweeted they'll land at andrews air force base late tonight and he'll be there to meet them. >> we're just learning about shots fired at the caltrans worker on highway 24 near the tunnel. police tell us a driver pulled over to the center median west of the tunnels and caltrans tow truck driver tried to

>> thank you, mike. thank you, dan. with regard to the master settlement agreement following the tobacco litigation, that has benefitted states, quite frankly, as a result of those companies, their trade practices, how they marketed, the addictive nature of tobacco, particularly for young people. what you all were able to accomplish in the master settlement agreement has really enabled states and particularly small states such as arkansas. we just -- i negotiated as part of the master settlement agreement this year, the state of arkansas will receive $57 million. that money goes toward education, freemtreatment, othe programs to discourage individuals from tobacco use because of the dangers that we all now know that are b associated with tobacco. that being said, as we were looking at the opioid litigation, potential litigation, i think many of the aforementioned trial bar, plaintiff's bar saw states as this is the opportunity to have another major lawsuit that could be multistate. so we were inundated. i know my state

mike? >> ellison barber, another busy day. thank you. arthel? >> from where we bring in susan, the chief congressional correspondent for the washington examiner. susan, let's jump right in. what is nicholas maduro 's motive? >> the timing. it was considered pretty much a fraud on the international space. very few people can walk to vote and nicholas maduro secure in this six-year term in a very undemocratic way. i think he was in some sense, looking to try and earn more respect on a national stage. perhaps more importantly, try to establish a better relationship with the united states. right after the election, the s cracked down with more financial sanctions on the country and then the venezuelans kicked out our diplomats good that we kick out some of their diplomats. things were really devolving. but i think ultimately, the motive from the president of venezuela to try and ease up financial sanctions against some of his current and former government officials. the internal support network
