mike khouw's with us tonight from san francisco mikey, what's the trade?ah, so, you know it's an interesting situation in caterpillar. this was a favored short some time ago people may remember they were talking about a commodity supercycle obviously, whether it was going to be good or bad depended a great deal on china, and it did manage to bounce back from some of those lows, and obviously, it's bounced back a little bit from those december lows and the bulls might make the case that right now the stock looks cheap. here's the thing about cyclical stocks -- you have to be very careful looking at multiples, because typically, forward-thinking investors recognize that there might be some hazards ahead so when you start seeing really cheap multiples, that actually can be as much a warning sign sometimes as much as things like high dividend yield. so i'm indeclined to go along with carter here i think the fundamentals are telling us that basically investors have significant skepticism about whether they can keep up the level of performance we've seen over th

to mike santoli on the floor with the close mike >> this notable bounce losing a little bit of steamour the dow now up about 230 points. if you look at what it's done in the past few days it will give you some context at today's high the dow was up 363 points, which basically would have recaptured more than half of yesterday's decline of 617. so we've receded a little bit into the close, not necessarily on any headlines it was a little bit of a cooling off of the trade rhetoric earlier. white house talking about continued negotiations with china. but mostly seemed like a pretty technical bounce we did very oversold conditions as of the close yesterday. the nasdaq was a leadership area in the market today. i was also going to highlight the dow transports pretty good bounce, up 154 points in the transports but only recapturing a small portion of its losses. bob pisani over the last few days >> i think this is a pretty tentative bounceback we did get a rally, half of what we had, but as you noted fading a little going into the close. we did work in stupidly oversold conditions energy st

back to you. >>> thanks, mike. if you rely on uber or lyft, have plan b ready today. rideshare drivers are set to strike in the bay area, along with other cities in the country. pete suratos is live for us in san francisco. pete, what are they asking for? >> reporter: yeah, marcus, on that growing list of demands, probably the top demand is calling for better wages. you will see drivers taking part in the strike. the rally will begin in front of uber headquarters where we are standing. i will get into details how the strike will affect drivers. they will log off for 12 hours starting at 12:00 p.m. that's around the time of the rally taking place here. it will end at 12:00 a.m. other drivers with raideshare apps such as list will join in. it could happen at different times lawsuit tthroughout the d. more than 10 cities are taking part, including l.a., which is holding a 24-hour strike. and new york, drivers are actually striking probably right now. we know those hours will be between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. during th

. >>> thanks, mike. well, you may remember this shocking video of a woman getting pulled under by a muni train last month. something similar happened again this week. sharon katsuda live for us where muni inspectors are trying to figure out what's going on here. sharon? >>> well, marcus, yes. muni is looking into another mishap where they say a passenger's hand got caught in the door while she was trying to get off the train. you'll recall another mishap last month was caught on video where the passenger's hand was caught in the door and she was dragged onto the tracks at the embarcadero. in this past week's incident uncovered by the investigative unit, the train operator realized the passenger's hand was caught in the door and opened the door about a block later. last month prompted the agency to order new sensors be installed. the problem this past week was caused by a crack in the rubber tubing. that is the focus in the older fleets now. muni says there have been problems with the sensors on the doors
