mike: closer to 12.avid: you are producing 25% of the oil produced in the united states, more or less? mike: as a company committee , you could say that our production is 1.2 million a day, so we are less than 10% of u.s. production. david: right now, the united states is energy sufficient compared to the 1960's or 1970's, when we imported a lot of oil. we probably consume 10 million to 12 million barrels a day. mike: closer to 20. david: we consume 20 million barrels a day and we produce roughly, you are saying, 12? we are importing the equivalent of 8 million barrels a day, just better than it used to be. where are we mostly importing that from? is it opec countries? mike: canada, our neighbors are the largest suppliers of oil and you remember all the conference around the keystone pipeline. we are a big customer of canada, who is a large resource country. david: how do you get the oil down here? mike: there are other pipelines that have been built in years gone by. sometimes it flows by rail and some

let's get to mike for the trade. mike?>> yeah, so fedex, this is a name that we own, actually, in our long fund. right now i have to say that if we get through earnings without a whole lot of movement i'll be pretty happy after the fairly disappointing earnings we saw late last year. i'm hoping that that basically has priced in all of the surprises now for fedex over the course of the coming, you know, weeks and months. so, you know, one thing you can do, when we were just talking about selling volatility, a way to do that while mitigating your risk is by selling an iron condor. this is not a structure we've spoken about all that often but it's one that can give you basically a positive probability of profit, better than expected probability of profit, and you can limit the risk. i was looking specifically out to the october regular expiration. the 230/240/260/270 iron condor, what's going on here, you're telling the 240/260 strangle and buying the 230/270 strangle. you're short that put spread and short that call spread.

mike: it is both. want to buy a large cap tech stocks. i want to point out something that is important. tom: please. mike: ex-one or two, they have been the result of cost-cutting. if they don't see topline re -acceleration, that will be another story for the fourth quarter. the market wants revenue growth. lisa: what we're talking about now is the bottom line. we are not talking about the rates picture. think of america strategists came out today and said "do rates matter for stocks?" do you agree? mike: we said this at the beginning of the year -- this is the most difficult part of the economic cycle. we are late cycle so we cannot argue we are midcycle or early cycle. what you can argue is that the late cycle period can persist for longer than people expected. rates have really surprised everybody. normally and a late cycle environment, rates come down because the fed is done. this cycle is unique. that is the tricky part. the fed cannot be proactive in cutting rates ahead of the recession, so we wi

mike, what's the trade here?ah, so xle, of course, is going to be heavily correlated to crude, west texas intermediate, 28% off the june lows, xle up 17% over that same time frame. this whole group, this etf is going to behave. the energy select sector index tends to behave a lot like integrated oil not surprising when you consider its two largest constituents, talking about exxon and chevron. when you take a look at all constituents, exposure to the entire space, there's a 90% correlation with the integrated names when you take a look at xle. it's interesting of course was you're looking at this index, relatively cheap, probably trading around eight times earnings, these companies have become much more capital efficient, and of course what we're seeing recently is that we are getting a little bit of a surprise supply gap, and i think carter was alluding to that, the sense was we're getting some glut. and yet when we take a look at cushion, the amount available in stores is lower than people anticipated and you c
