chief congressional correspondent mike emanuel tracking this, joins us live from the hill. >> democrats blocked a four-week funding extension, 50-48 but the vote had a 60-vote threshold. settle off a flurry of activity on the senate floor where conversation continueded trying to come up with some alternative plan to keep the government lights on for an extended period of time. some republicans floated the alternative, three-week funding extension on allow time for no, on a budget agreement. and the status of those young people got illegally by their parents. also avoid more of a government shutdown, government funding drama before president trump gives his first state of the union adroes january 30. earlier that was hope, two new yorkers, president trump and the senate democratic leader would be able to cut a deal. >> we had a long and detailed meeting. we discussed all of the major outstanding issues, we made some progress but we still have good number of disagreements. discussions will continue. >> red state democrats donnely, jones, heitkamp, manchin, mckas kell voted in favor of the

mike emanuel reporting from capitol hill. thank you.oining me now, the white house budget chief mick mulvaney the man in charge of implanting the shutdown. welcome back to "fox news sunday." >> director mulvaney: thank you again for having me. >> chris: describe the extent of the shutdown both in terms of personnel and programs. >> director mulvaney: sure. as of yesterday, federal agencies started setting up their furlough notices. there's really three categories of employees. those who will come to work on monday, those who will not come to work on monday and is actually a small group that will come to work on monday for about four hours to help shut things down and then they will leave as well. those notices went out yesterday that over the course of the next couple days we will start to see agencies trying to implement the shutdown plans, which is a little bit different than it was in 2013 as we try to work to keep more agencies open. i talked to the president late friday night and he said work hard to keep as many of these folks at

mike emanuel, thank you. for more, let's bring in my first guest, principle white house decket raj shaw. good to see you today. let's get started with where the president is on immigration deal. you have a bipartisan gangs of six about to roll out. if that doesn't look like the answer, will the president back a continuing resolution? >> well, we are supportive of the continuing resolution that's going to be introduced in the house of representatives. we think it's very important to fund the government, to fund our national security priorities make sure the government is kept open. on the separate issue of the bipartisan deal that you are saying is being proposed, we feel like it doesn't meet our standards. there was a meeting last week in which we came together, bipartisan house and senate, democrats and republicans, talked about the need to engage four issues on any kind of immigration deal. that was daca, that was also ending chain migration, ending the visa lottery and real border security. and, frankly, t
