nbc's mike memoli is following this story from the white house. bring us up to date on the president's condition this monday morning. >> reporter: we haven't heard from the white house doctor this morning yet with what's been a daily update on the president's condition. yesterday the update indicated that the symptoms improving significantly. the president continues the treatment of paxlovid and tylenol and at times an inhaler to aid with an existing lung condition. he had asthma as a child and occasionally has issues with that. we haven't seen the president over the weekend. we had been getting regular photos and updates from the white house. none over the weekend and seeing him twice today. first a recorded address for the president to deliver to black law enforcement executives and then live this afternoon when he has the event with labor leaders and ceos on the c.h.i.p.s act. the president wants to see that move over the finish line and try to do the bit today. it is worth noting as we talk about the white house messaging operation communicati

joining us is mike memoli. good to talk to you.as on a bike ride yesterday and was asked about what he will do to protect abortion access. he essentially said he wants protesters to continue fighting . he also said he wants to codify roe. he wants to codify abortion access. how? >> yes yasmin, when you saw supreme court overturning roe v wade you have activists and women frankly feeling that there was a severe blow dealt to them. a constitutional right being rescinded for the first time in this country's history and since then we have seen republican governors and local officials really racing to implement new restrictions on that practice area and they are wondering where is the urgent the on the part of the biden administration? they want to see that same kind of action. the white house has made clear that the only thing that really can address this now is legislation. we will see the house of representatives vote again and everyone knows that even if they abolish the filibuster, they still wouldn't have the votes on the democrat

joining us is nbc white house correspondent mike memoli, any reaction what they are prepared to do?person yesterday who repeated what has been the standard line for the administration in dealing with these wrongfully the tained or hostage crises, one is that the president does everything he can working aggressively to try to bring detainee individuals home. also, we have seen in the past, this is a white house reluctant to comment too much publicly about the ongoing development in these individual cases. that is because there is concern the more they engage publicly, the more the asking price, frankly, from rush becomes whether it's brittney griner or other americans detained there. i thought it was notable in griner's letter to the president, she does mention us, that she's not alone in there. that's one of the dilemmas facing the white house. when they detained trevor reed in russia, whose health was failing, they actually traded a russian in the game of constantin yaroshenko, among the highly coveted assets for russia as they were discussing potential exchanges like we saw there.

joining me now, mike memoli, michael beschloss, and dr. peter hotez. dr.otez, we got a note from the white house saying this is day zero, not day one. for those not versed in covid protocol, what does that mean for him and people who may have been around him? >> in terms of the number of days of isolation and when to think about repeat testing, you would start counting from day zero. that's the significance of this. i'm optimistic he will do well given the fact that he has had two boosts. he maxed out his vaccinations. he is on paxlovid. the fact he is sitting up, looking well, those are good monitor. we have to be careful about ensuring this is not a slam dunk and assuming he is totally out of the woods yet. >> if you remember the white house medical team, if you are the president's doctor, the stakes obviously go up pretty high. what would they beof monitoringg an eye on him? what would have to happen before someone on the medical team would say, it's no longer okay for him to be at the white house? >> if he is having oxygen if he becomes lethargic and e
