ktvu's mike mibach talked with a father who suffered a painful loss and is now joining the fight to help save lives. >> reporter: big smile, big plans. this is aj. this is his father. >> there is one moment during the day where i shout, i wish i had known. >> what he didn't know, his son was taking prescription drugs. >> it is a prescription narcotic. it killed him. >> reporter: prescription drug abuse. a problem here in marine. officials gave us these numbers. 2012, 42 people died of breast cancer. that year, 49 people died of prescription drug over dose. they are looking to atact the problem -- to attack the problem. >> the system is rigged for over prescription and we are helping address that. >> reporter: 12 million pills were prescribed in marine last year. today the district attorney announced a new program. if a person is charged with prescription drugs the da will contact the physical involved and send them a letter. >> they will be made aware these people that are being treated had legal issues. we will give them copies of the public filings. when you go forward with your treatm

ktvu's mike mibach talked with the victim about why she wants the school to do more. >> the student isaking on a big time university, she says she the survivor of a sexual assault, angry with the man who hurt her and he will be able to get his diploma. >> reporter: signs of support on the campus. one pocket drapped in words, tand withlia. >> when i see him it is incident panic. >> reporter: a stanford senior. >> on january 1 i was forcibly sexually assaulted by someone that i knew, someone that i trusted. >> the crime happened in alaska. the man who did it is afulo student -- is a fellow student. she says stanford ruled the assailant will be suspected for five -- suspended for five carters starting in the summer -- quarters starting in the summer session which means he would be allowed to get his diploma next week. stanford could not comment but in a statement they said we regret any circumstance in which a student believes the process here has not met their expectations. we havestructened our programs in the area of -- we have strengthened our programs in the area of sexual assault. s

mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a san jose police officer is out on bail tonight facing charges that he planned to sell drugs. ktvu's robert handa is in the south bay with what lead to the officer's arrest. robert? >> reporter: well, that police officer was arrested here at san jose police headquarters hours after marijuana was discovered and ktvu channel 2 news learned why he was taken into custody so quickly. >> reporter: workers at this public storage facility checked on a locker because the owner is behind in rent. they called police after finding american inside. a police officer, son vu, was connected to the storage locker. sources told ktvu investigators obtained surveillance video tape of son vu at the locker. and estimated the amount of pot at 20 pounds. police are not confirming the information but said the evidence allowed them to arrest son vu that evening charged with possession with intent to sell. >> the officers and the district attorney felt comfortable the amount of marijuana was enough to charge the officer. >> son vu has other legal troubles. he is named in a
