mike tobin has the late nest ferguson. what else did we learn from the medical examiner the family hired? >> reporter: what we learned, is that the results are consistent with the witness accounts that michael brown had his hand up when he was shot. they're also consistent with other witness accounts that the michael brown was charging at the officer when he was shot. >> could be consistent with his going forward or going backward, but from the front, and if he was shot going forward, he would collapse right away. the problem -- so, it's possible. a number of different possibilities. >> reporter: there are no wounds that would indicate a struggle with the officer. abrasions to the side of his face are don't with being shot, then following face first on to the pavement. no toxicology was done by the independent medical examination. that was done by the county. as far as a leak that there was marijuana in his system, neither the county medical examiner or the county prosecutor, who has the results, would con femur or deny. >

and mike tobin standing on the ground inferring son, missouri. mike. >> reporter: we're now watching the demonstrations throughout the night. they have click into a routine. cars driving up and down the road, people on the side chanting and waving, people on top of vehicles, dancing, want to get in front of the cameras. no indication that things are going to get worse throughout the night, certainly without an aggravating factor. the aggravating factor that came throughout the day was the release of that videotape, showing the robbery. now the family and representatives of the family of michael brown say that's him on the video. no dispute there. the other aggravating factor is the timing and release of that video and the fact the police seem to change their story throughout the process certainly walking it back that officer wilson hasn't known there was a robbery and didn't stop mike brown basketballs of a report of a robbery. here's the chief. what are you saying, chief? did he know he was a suspect in a case or did he not know? >> no, he didn't

mike tobin is on the ground with more details. mike?er: shannon, the arrests really amount to sk skirmishes now, and the groups tend to gather around mcdonald's. there were six arrests last night. four of those were from out of state, and three of those were repeat offenders, so you really get a picture of outsiders who come here looking for trouble and find it late at night. beyond that, there is a lot of discussion about one of the key witnesses, dorian johnson and his credibility. johnson was with mike brown when mike brown was shot, but it has come to light that johnson has a record. he has a record for stealing a backpack and then lying to police. >> frankly, the court of evidence in every jurisdiction in the country generally prohibits the introduction of prior bad acts for a reason. >> reporter: aside from that, a lot of attention is going toward the funeral of mike brown on monday. al sharpton will give one of the eulogies, and what we've seen thus far from reverend sharpton is that he tends to in flame rather than calm the crow

our own mike tobin is there live. explain to us what happened last night and to you, as well. >> reporter: well, the way it went down, gretchen, kind of a pattern. after nightfall things start to get more boozy, more aggressive, a little more angry. the demonstrators got out on the street ultimately the police formed up and pretty soon we saw plastic bottles and glass bottles flying over the crowd crashing in front of the officers. that ultimately gave way to clashes. the police responded with the tier gas, with rubber bullets and what we found from the demonstrators is they responded with live fire. there were at least two people shot during the course of this. we had at least two gunmen who were on the loose that the police were looking for. through it all there's an updated list of the number of people who were arrested. 78 total were arrested. most of them for failure to disperse. interesting point in that, of those arrested, only four of them were from ferguson and that speaks volumes to the claim of community or

fox news correspondent mike tobin is live on the scene tonight with the latest. good evening, mike. >> reporter: well, everybody's . but if there's going to be violence, it really is in the hands of this crowd. because as we pan around and get a look at this crowd, they're getting more rowdy as the night goes on. but what you won't see is any police. you'll hear a lot of this chanting, hands up, don't shoot. you'll hear a lot of horns honking. you'll see a lot of young people getting fired up, other people getting fired up, excitement taking on more of the atmosphere of a block party than demonstration. we've seen candle lit vigils. we do see some young men, in fact as we go across the street there, there's some young men with their faces covered up. doesn't mean they're going to start trouble. just means their faces are covered up. that's the kind of thing, it adds a little bit of tension to the mix. what doesn't add friction to the mix is the presence of police. and that seems to be a very conscious decision made by captain ron johnson with the missouri highway

mike tobin is live in ferguson, outside the police department. tly walking along with demonstrators. what you got, mike? >> this is a demonstration that spilled out on to the road, and the demonstrations have evolved. there's much now about the police tactics and dealing with the crowd as they are the original death of michael brunch you can see this ad hoc crowd home, from the church, members of the new blank panther party. you have members of the nation of islam. theirs mr. qali who says he is necessary to act. the nation of islam. mothers against senseless killing. they're walking down to the mayor's office and serve him with a letter, their list of grievances. what we have season throughout the process, the demonstrations throughout the day are ad hoc, they spring up. but during the day they have largely remained peaceful. at night is when well see the clashes with police. you saw it in dramatic fashion last night, with the flash bang, smoke grenade, tear gas, bean-bag bullets. one officer was hit bay bottle, a broken an kell. -- ankle. the po

bret. >> mike tobin live in ferguson tonight. we'll monitor that situation. >>> as mentioned, president obama will send his attorney general to ferguson wednesday. meanwhile the justice department has fbi agents going door to door in the neighborhood where michael brown was killed. white house correspondent wendell goler on the federal response to the protest and the intent that sparked them. >> in president obama appealed for calm in ferguson, missouri. let me call once again for us to seek some understanding rather than simply holler at each other. let's seek to heal rather than to wound each other. >> the president said the violence there was being caused by a small minority, many of them who might not be from ferguson who are under mining justice for 18-year-old michael brown. earlier in the day, he met with eric holder who was saided to ferguson and has arranged an autopsy by a federal medical examiner. spokesman said it was due to the extraordinary circumstances involved in this case and at the request of the brown family.

mike tobin live there in ferguson. mike? >> reporter: we got a rare public appearance from supporters of officer darren wilson. they held a rally at a pub in south st. louis. the purpose of this particular rally, one was to show support for officer wilson and let police officers know they are in their corner. they are raising money for the family of officer wilson and possibly for a legal defense fund in the event he is charged. supporters are reluctant to show their faces or use their name. >> we are here to support darren wilson and we have no desire to engage in the negativetivity and hate which has paralyzed officer's wilson's ability to pursue justice. many of us received death threats against ourselves and our families. >> looked at as criminals because of the color of our skin or the stereotypes and it's not right! whatever. >> reporter: that was a woman who disrupted the rally with a familiar argument, saying that the supporters of this police officer are able to throw their rallies and it doesn' disrupted, while the

fox's mike tobin was there. >> reporter: what you see here is a change in police tactics in the dayseading up to this the police backed off made sure their presence wasn't seen so there would be no friction with the demonstrators. now, we have one of these adhoc demonstration that is just popped up. people started marching in the streets and you can see the yellow vests are people working with the police department securing the root making sure there isn't any traffic problem with the demonstrators. cars that you just saw behind me those are officers protecting back end of the demonstration. up in the front end of the demonstration you have more police vehicles protecting the demonstrators from traffic. the technique of backing off and not making the police presence known still produced the scenes ferguson was trying so hard to avoid last night. you ended up with the officers in tactical gear in a line on the road. the demonstrators forming lines squaring off. ultimately the pepper spray came out, the smoke grenades, the flash banks came out and that was followed by the looting. sam'
