monique braxton is live in brewery town. monique, you have new information about the victims?th the commanding officer. he told us right now his officers are up in the northeast part of the city notifying families that they have lost loved ones. we've seen a lot of activity here outside of a.i.d. police tell us that they have since removed the car from sand myer and red lion. police say right now they're combing over the car behind closed doors. we've also learned that at midnight last night two females and one male were killed instantly when the 2007 acura tl slammed into this tree. one male is in extremely critical condition at jefferson and in surgery. another male is at einstein. he's talking but somewhat disoriented. the five are between the ages of 16 and 20 all from the northeast part of the city. one from bustleton. the officer on the scene admits he was stunned when he saw this car. >> it's very severe. the car was split in half almost -- almost perfectly when they encountered the tree. it's very, very devastating. >> now i asked the commanding officer here at a.i.d.

monique braxton is joining us live from the police headquarters in center city. what have you learned about this 17-year veteran of the force? >> reporter: hi, chris. we should tell you, first, the police are not releasing the name of the s.w.a.t. team member but much of the 17 years he has been on the force here he has been assigned to the s.w.a.t. team. he was treated and released from a local hospital yesterday. we arrived on the scene at north brook apartments shortly after the shooting in the northeast. investigators say the 41-year-old was with his colleagues serving an arrest warrant when she surprised the murder sprk devon guisherd who shot the officer in the vest. the vest stopped that bullet and the second time this s.w.a.t. team member has been shot in the line of duty. >> the s.w.a.t. officers wear a particular vest that also has an extension that covers more of their body and my understanding is that his position when the round hit him, that extra protection what saved him. >> reporter: we have also learned this morning that the s.w.a.t. team member

monique braxton is in storm force. she'll bring us updates throughout the morning. we're also getting words of power outages. delaware county there's about 1,000 outages, scattered outages in montgomery county chester and philadelphia as well. >>> a real innocent victim here. an elderly woman sitting on her front porch last night when she was hit by a stray bullet. this morning she's recovering in a philadelphia hospital. nbc 10's matt delucia is outside that hospital. einstein medical center. how is this woman doing this morning? >> reporter: she's stable here at einstein at this hour. police are still trying to figure out who fired the shots. police say this woman was sitting on her front porch minding her business when the bullets came flying in her direction. they tell us this happened just after 10:30 on the 2800 block of north 25th street. the woman was shot once in the right leg. she was on the ponch with her son. police say there were at least two shots fired that they know of. they're still trying to figure out who would fire these shots. detectives have be

nbc10's monique braxton has been on the ground there shortly after the fire started. she joins us with an update on the fire and a look at how tough that hot weather made it on the firefighters. >> reporter: hi chris. heat exhaustion has landed two firefighters in the hospital. the fire director tells us, while they were battling this blaze, they became light-headed and dizzy. >> for more than three hours, trenton firefighters battled intense flames and billowing smoke on this hot and humid morning. >> it has a great adverse impact on firefighters and first responders. >> as they rotate in and out, we watched as ems teams screened firefighters under a tent a fan constantly sprays a cool mist. >> because of the heat of the intensity and fires, also the hue humidity and the weather temperatures, with all the equipment that firefighters have to wear and carry, it really takes its toll. >> reporter: he says that equipment weighs 50 to 70 pounds. plus they're constantly swegt under their fire clothing which makes drinking water a necessity. he adds this vacant home inhabit

monique, thanks for being here. and i know you've seen it. with photos of 35 accusers and their stories, very descriptive and horrific tales of alleged drugging molestation, and rape. bill cosby though has repeatedly denied the claims of abuse. so my first question is your legal team pursuing legal action against any of these outspoken accusers? >> we're discussing all options in terms of legal action as i've said previously there are numerous instances of defamation against mr. cosby, not just by accusers with their allegations but by different and various media outlets and nothing is off the table at this time. i did want to just as a point of clarification from the remarks you made in the opening say that the trial judge has not yet decided whether this case will or will not be thrown out. our motion to dismiss in the huff case is still pending as well as a motion for sanctions. the issue before the california supreme court because procedural one as to whether they would be allowed to go forward with an amended complaint after various proc

monique braxton is live. the woman's car and a knife were found yesterday. do you have an update on this investigation? >> reporter: that's right. for the past several hours i've been talking to my sources in homicide. they tell us that the task force will be hitting the streets in north philadelphia in a matter of hours. they do know that regina bruener's car was found just across did street but who brought it here and if that's the person that killed her remains a mystery. we've learned detectives will be back reviewing surveillance videotape showing pedestrians as well as cars here at stillman and clearfield. now, that's between sunday and tuesday morning. those are the hours that they're honing in on. fingerprints will be lifted from the toyota belonging to bruener. dna will be screened with a criminal database. they're working around the clock trying to release bank surveillance tape showing the attempt to use her atm card. she was found in her home with her throat slashed monday morning by her son. there were no signs of forced entry. that's leading po

nbc10's monique braxton joins us live from police headquarters in center city. tell us what you've learned about this case. >> reporter: hi chris. this morning, that s.w.a.t. officer is at home recovering with his wife and two children. you know yesterday, we did speak with police commissioner ramsey here outside of police headquarters. he told us the officer's vest saved his life. take a look at what the commissioner calls the police armor. when the 41-year-old s.w.a.t. officer was shot in 2010 police showed us the kevlar vest and say it stopped a bullet from entering the police officer's chest. the sergeant was shot when they both responded to a barricade situation in the 800 block of swanger street. >> high risk situation and high risk warrant was being executed this time. and so that's what those guys do. they risk their lives. it's absolutely amazing. two times he has been shot. >> reporter: yesterday, the vest extension stopped a bullet from hitting the s.w.a.t. officer's lower stomach. he was bruised, though. treated and released. investigators tell us mu

monique braxton is live for us with details in connection with this case. what can you tell us. >> reporter: upper darby police announced the arrest of a homeless man. they stopped short of saying he caused the catastrophic fire four-alarm fire here in upper darby. this is the mug shot of the individual 54-year-old james morris. he's charged with trespassing and theft. investigators tell us he's in custody on a $50,000 bail. they also say, morris was on the second floor of the payless shoe store when the fire began. they also showed us these surveillance pictures of the suspect behind the store. we wanted to know how they made the connection. they tell us he was scrapping metal in store shelving. >> the night he was arrested he was staying up on the second floor, unbeknownst to the people on the first floor. he was then taking shelves that were up there storage shelves, cutting them down and then giving them to the gentleman walking away with the cart. >> reporter: now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. i asked investigators if morris is a
