we're talking about mental health in montgomery county.we were talking about the changing graphic throughout our region. how has that changed the work that you all do, the need and demand out there? >> it's changing a lot. montgomery county has become a minority/majority community. very multicultural. there's need to provide services that are culturally competent and in different languages. the biggest one right now is spanish. we have a large number of spanish speaking therapists but the need is greater than the availability of the people that can provide the service. >> a lot of that is coming from young people. we tend to say that the generation after us has it really tough. but we can truly say that now with social media out there. is it tougher to grow up and be a teenager today than ever before? >> absolute lit it is. there's a lot of exposure to children at an earlier age. montgomery county public school system has, for example, in the last year sent over a thousand children to the crisis center for assessment and evaluation. that's

joshua starr, montgomery county school superintendent.ou've got a new code of conduct this school year. tell us about that. >> we do. this reflect the movement going on in the state and in the country to keep our kids in school. it's the right thing to do. we reduce discretionary suspensions by 50% last year and overall suspensions by about 37%, 38% because the schools took the attitude that we need our kids to learn from their mistakes. we make sure our schools are safe, secure environment, we need to make sure kids learn from their mistakes, we know that there's disproportionality, too many black kids, too many latino kids get suspended. we're working hard to reduce the numbers. our schools have risen to the occasion. our new code of conduct can reflect the values and principles that we have to make sure kids stay in school, gives our principal discretion but makes sure our schools are safe and secure environments. it's great stuff. >> all the exciting change you've got coming up. -- changes you've got coming up. there was distraction a

jillian was showing us the traffic impact of a crash in montgomery county. one person dead after a violent car accident in hatfield township. katy zachry is live on scene. what can you show us so far this morning. >> reporter: let me show you the scene behind me on the 1600 block of broad street. this deadly crash happened just before 1:00 this morning. two people were in this vehicle. let's take a minute to talk to the extent to the damage of the vehicle. you're looking at just a mass of metal right now. and then across the yard, where this car came to a screeching halt against a pole. you see a wheel and another part of the vehicle. but really just a very sad situation here. there are friends of the victim who have come to the scene who are very clearly distraught. two people were riding in this car when it was traveling on north broad street and they say that, you know, they're looking at a number of factors. speed may be a factor but it clearly lost control before slamming into a pole and then really just splitting into two pieces. one of the people in t

"action news" reporter, katherine scott is live at the lincoln apartments in upper dublin where crews remained at the scene, katherine. >> reporter: one woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, there's no word on her condition at this time. there's quite a bit of damage from this fire. it's contained to one apartment, but they had to knock out the walls. firefighters remain on the scene. they were called before 2:00 a.m. to the woods apartment complex on the 700 block of west lincoln drive. when firefighters arrived they could seep the flames from the outside of buildings. the resident in the apartment where it began was out on the balcony. eventually she went back into the apartment and rescued by firefighters. firefighters went door to door excavating residents it was placed under control in 35 minutes. people in nearby buildings could hear commotion. >> i was sitting in my apartment watching tv, i heard some noise outside, i he

we're following breaking news in montgomery county.le are hurt after a house fire in moorestown. matt delucia is live at the scene with more. matt? >> reporter: vai, of those injuries one is an injury to a leg, one to a shoulder and the third person has smoke inhalation. let me get out of the way here real quick, show you the scene. this fire started at 3:30, was put under control within about 20 minutes or so. we saw an arson dog within the past 15, 20 minutes going through this hem and going through some of the debris in front. these are row homes. some have smoke and water damage. some have been sitting out here for the better part of the morning. one person we spoke with in the past 30 minutes, he had a back injury, came home to find his home destroyed because of the fire. the investigation continues. we'll stay on top of this out here. three injuries as a result of this fire on the 900 block of yerkes right here by noble street and west washington, the area still blocked off with fire trucks, at least on this particular street. wa

we have some breaking news overnight an apartment fire in montgomery county. we are heading out to fox 29's steve keeley in ambler for us, steve. >> reporter: very understated words of one of the firemen we in met here this was in big deal in the end and he and all of the other volunteers from several suburban fire departments are the reason why this was not a bigger deal. they kept this contained to one apartment building, in this complex with dozens of apartment buildings. you can see cell phone video here shot by a girl who lives in the next building, right next door, probably 50 feet away, woken up not by any alarms or smell of smoke or sound of any flames crackling but by sound of the volunteer fire fighters showing up within seconds screaming fire, get out. that was why everyone in that same buildings that this, that the building that burned got out alive and got out really unhurt. only injury here was where the fire started and they got a call that it was a bedroom fire. they got that person out. that person is not even seriously hurt. >> it was in the
