this is an exciting time to be here at half moon bay, raj. over my one shoulder i have mavericks point where the surf contest will happen about a half a mile offshore. over my other shoulder the hotel and spa where spectators will be able to watch the action in hd on a jumbotron live as it happens. the weather system that will create those perfect conditions for the mavericks invitational on friday was giving some of the 24 competitors a run for their money today and yesterday. we talked with a few of them who said their practice runs were rough and about as challenging as it gets. as they prepare physically and mentally for the contest, organizers are working furiously behind the scenes to get everything ready for them and for the public. this year, like last year, the only way to watch the action in person will be at that viewing festival, i should say, at the osuga hotel spa and beach. a giant wave in 2008 wiped out the crowd watching from show. the founder jeff clark is jus about as excited as a kid on christmas morning, anticipating a gr
