mr. pompeo is correct that they are working. we get back to dealing with the nuclear issue remains to be seen. certainly all of us were concerned about the other things that iran does beyond the nuclear and that certainly state sponsored terrorism as has been discussed in this section, a major problem. also a major problem about what will be the role of iran in syria as that revolution or that uprising is stamped out by among other things iran and the assad regime. so we will see, a lot of things are in play. i would hope the president is tough. we need to be tough. we need to be clear and hopefully the president will be. eric: the administration says that the sanctions are working. you know, major european companies are pulling out of iran because basically they are given a choice, deal with iran, or you lose american business, so that is really hurting the iranian economy. do you think at the end of the day that will change iranian behavior? >> well, the nuclear deal was about nuclear. it did not and many people think this was

that is very controversial in congress, has the need for mr pompeo to certify that saudi arabia and the taking some steps and he listed a number of them. he said for example they had drawn up no strike lists. those are a list of targets that should not be hit because of civilians. they had also accepted to change the rules of engagement based on some us recommendations. they had paid for training by the us air force in order to reduce civilian casualties. and they had agreed to conduct investigations of harmful air strikes, including that one you mentioned about the children were killed in august. in that case, they had said it was a mistake and that they would hold those responsible to account. the report also says none of this is sufficient. the us is pressing them to do more. it was enough to get this vote of from the administration. this is a matter of debate. these are pretty gruesome attacks and pretty high stakes. at the pentagon has all along argued that it would be even worse if the us were not involved. that more civilians will begin. but then of course there are the obvious s

mr. pompeo needlessly over excluding, in terms of needlessly saying things i thought are not entirely clearcoming out of any of those public declarations. excluding, in terms of nonetheless, they say there's enough to start a negotiation. i think it is important that it start about negotiations. in a way that is sustainable and serious and behind the cenes as well. a lot of hard work as well, ven taking a more optimistic view. the other point i will make is that outside of the joint statement, i think what we have seen over the past couple days is something -- i do not think it is enough understood in washington. that is that the ground is shifting on the korean peninsula. the plates are moving in ways you have to step back and take a historical perspective to see. i'm not saying it is a plus or a minus. there are opportunities or dangers in this. north korea is no longer treating south korea like the puppet state of the united states. denuclearization is on the agenda. kim jong-un has promised to go o seoul. this would be a big thing and has important implications for the united states, th

mr. pompeo mentioned negotiations with north korea should be completed by 2021.e reasonably hopeful what i mean. we do not lose much by talking to north korea. we will see next week when they meet in new york, how things are changing. you do not lose much, but there is a sense that you are not gaining much other than goodwill. doesis point, washington not have a list of nuclear facilities and properties that north korea has. diplomatic overtures like the return of american soldiers remains and the release of u.s. hostages. without progress on denuclearization, is something like this worthwhile? >> what north korea has indicated through the agreement yesterday was mostly about stopping developing their nuclear program further and their test site and test facilities, which is good. up their about giving nuclear arsenal. like i said, they might be saving them for talks with the americans. trump re-think president in new york alongside a general assembly. how good a mediator has he been beyond -- between the two sides? met kim jong-un, the talks resumed between the ,
