mr. balwani of domestic abuse and said that was a big factor in why she did what she did at theranos. that didn't play out as much in the balwani trial. the government portrayed them as partners in life and partners in crime. i think they're saying they're equally responsible even though there was a lot of finger pointing as to who was really in control at theranos. >> for his defense, what do you think their strategy will be when it comes to sentencing? >> they're going to point out mr. balwani invested a lot of money in theranos and he actually lost a lot of money unlike ms. holmes and he was highly invested in the technology part of this. but he left before the theranos ship went down. so i think they will point out those two factors. it was ms. holmes who made all these misrepresentations to investors. he actually had skin in the game. he lost a lot of money here. he didn't profit. i think they're going to say it's not fair to send that man to prison for 15 years. and they're going to hope for the same thing ms. holmes hoped for, house arrest or a short prison sentence. >> balwani'

mr. balwani. >> let's bring in our business and tech reporter, scott budman. you covered the trial, both trials and sentencing hearings. any distinct differences to you in terms of his sentencing and elizabeth holmes' sentencing? >> it was interesting he, the chief operating officer and the one who came on board was given a longer sentence by a year and a half than elizabeth holmes, the ceo, founder and whose idea, this whole thing. it was a little bit of a surprise. as you just said he was found guilty on all 12 counts. they put him in the lab with those machines that were ultimately put into stores and did not work. elizabeth holmes was found guilty on four counts all dealing with investor fraud. perhaps it's not so much of a surprise that even though he was in some ways an underling, he got more time in prison. >> he is to report march 15. elizabeth holmes, who is pregnant, late april. what was his reaction? i know elizabeth holmes was very emotional during her sentencing. what about him? >> it was a surprise, i'll be honest. holmes was given a chance to sp

mr. balwani. >> they will keel on fighting. joining us now is our own scott budman who has been following this case for years, and our legal analyst dean johnson. gentlemen, nice to see both of you this evening. scott, you were in the courtroom a few weeks ago for the elizabeth holmes sentencing. she broke down in tears. what was balwani's reaction today? >> she broke down in tears when she had a chance to speak to the victims, to the judge, to the jury, to her family and apologize for everything that had gone on. that's something that she gets a chance to do. that chance was given today to sunny balwani, and he rejected. so we did not hear from him. he didn't show any emotion, and even after the 13-year sentence was announced, he stared straight ahead for quite some time before turning around and being con sold by his family. but a much, much quieter balwani than see we saw in the elizabeth holmes case. >> refresh my memory. did sunny balwani address the court at all at any point? >> he did not that is something people talked
