they were y homework but then after a few months of that i got another call from a lawyer who said mr. cosby wants to speak with you. i said is that good, is it bad? he said i'm not going to speak for him. he said expect a phonecall. so another month and a half goes by. finally one day i was just leaving "cnn" my job fairs managing editor and i was still in my office when my then assistant rushes to my office and says bill cosby is on the phone. so i picked up the phone and the first words out of his mouth are congratulations. what are you congratulating me for? all of a sudden we are good friends. he said i have a process when i write my comedy routine called floating the boat and i'm going to help you load the boat. now what he was calling that day to do was to give me the name of the people from early on in his life in philadelphia where he was born and went to college at temple, who he thought i should interview and i might not otherwise be aware of or if i was wouldn't talk to me necessarily without his permission. but what i discovered in that first conversation is what would then rema
