mr. kushner. an interview with mr. manafort was scheduled the day before he was raided by the f.b.i. last summer. we meaning senator feinstein and this senator has subpoenaed mr. manafort for a committee hearing set for july 26, 2017. mr. manafort instead offered to appear voluntarily for a staff interview the day before the hearing. and the ranking member asked me to withdraw the subpoena. then the f.b.i. raided his home and mr. manafort indicated he would invoke his fifth amendment rights and then consequently declined to answer the committee's questions. however, we did review the transcript of his earlier interview with the intelligence committee. the ranking member refused to participate in a voluntary interview when we had a chance. she said democrats on the committee objected that the scope would be focused on the trump tower meeting. for all i know, the minority leader's office objected as well. but political leadership should not be dictating bipartisan committee oversight. for mr. kushner, he refused to participate in a voluntary interview after the ranking member unilatera

mr. kushner still works in the white house. he still has the white house senior adviser title that he has had ever since he first got to d.c. but mr. kushner apparently is no longer allowed access to any classified materials. because he was not able to get a security clearance. one of the reported concerns about his security clearance application were these repeated allegations that he was mixing conversations about the needs of his family's real estate business with conversations he was having about u.s. government policy as a white house adviser. that's the kind of thing that can keep you from getting a security clearance. if you are giving business owners or donors or foreign governments the impression that if they financially help out your family business that might give them an edge when it comes to getting what they want from the u.s. government, that's not okay. you can't get a clearance if that's the impression you're giving people. i mean, and then there's the darker version of that possibility, right? not only could y

mr. kushner i said i wish my father-in-law had the confidence in me that your father-in-law has in you because he's given you mission impossible. even though the embassy belongs in jerusalem, no question about that, what happened today made mission impossible on steroids. the reality is i doubt certainly we are not closer, and i think in terms of the u.s. role and the framework, what happened today is made the situation all that more difficult. >> does anyone on the palestinian side see the u.s. as an honest broker in this situation which i assume is essential for some sort of peace process and yeah, peace process to move forward? >> i think the answer is no. and i think the answer is probably no even before mr. trump got to washington. the truth is, the situation may respects and i'm not dreaming here, the situation may actually be redeemable if the administration would be prepared to put on the table an approach that was more than one-hand clapping, one that reflected the needs and requirements on the core issues, borders, jerusalem, refugees, recognizing israel as the state of the jews, own

mr. kushner, mrs. kushner, and others moving the embassy and celebrating it today in jerusalem?'re already responding as we speak. there are protests going on along the border with the gaza strip, also beginning in the west bank as well. so the embassy move really coincides with the culmination of this month and a half worth of protests sponsored by hamas and others, protesting their plight as refugees. so it's the combination was just really all coming together today and tomorrow. tom: you say all come together. three religions all come together in jerusalem. give us the distinction of where this embassy is in jerusalem. what does it same blaze for the three religions? michael: well, it's interesting. this is actually an existing building. they haven't built a new embassy. there's a consulate building cated in the neighborhood of west jerusalem. this is not contested territory. and, you know, it kind of overlooks the old city where the holy sites are located. it's contentious because the palestinians feel that by recognizing jerusalem as israel's capital that president trump is

mr. kushner has expensive holdings that each and every one required someone to look at to determine the naturefinances. so of course it took a long time, but it was done the normal process. >> so what do you think, david? does that add up to you? >> believes it was done in the normal process -- here's the thing, jared kushner as you know, wolf, has a pretty expensive portfolio the president has assigned from him on day one. if they understood the normal process and how long it was going to be to get him into a full security clearance environment, why all those things were being assigned to him from the get go i think is a question for the white house to answer. >> sabrina, we now know that mueller completed a second interview with jared kushner, seven hours. and that they're preparing to sentence even as we speak in the coming days george papadopoulos. what does that signal to you? >> it could signal there is at least one phase of the investigation that is nearing its conclusion. george papadopoulos, of course, pleaded guilty in october to lying to the fbi about the nature of his contacts with

mr. kushner signaled just how serious it might be by his choice of lawyers in washington, abbe lowell among the very best, especially for officials who find themselves in trouble. but the first part was so important. those close to the president believing at this late date in his eventual exoneration. >> they absolutely believe that. nearly everyone we talked to believes, especially when it comes to collusion, they believe that the president says he's done nothing wrong. they believe him when he says that, and they also sort of say, look, bob mueller is so thorough that if there was a "there "there, it would have turned up by now. there's a little more question on the obstruction of justice bucket just because no one sort of quite knows what the bar is and what they may not know. they sort of describe saying we believe the president will be exonerated but they are sort of psychologically steeling themselves for a long slog because they don't know if and when it will happen. they also recognize in the process -- and again, i should be clear this is their speculation, but they talk about this

mr. kushner laughed at that, at that particular moment. >> they laughed at it.say that he used made-up hispanic-sounding names and described potential crimes they could have committed such as rape and murder, and you're saying miller and kushner laughed at that story? >> that's right. that's right. that's what our sources told us, who are familiar with that exchange. >> that's just remarkable. lastly, does it seem like in light of this back and forth and the fact it is a number of times that the president has chastised his homeland security secretary, is it your sense that her days are numbered? >> well, you know, we've seen this before, and when certain cabinet members have fallen in and out of favor, but in her case i think her fate is very much tied to chief of staff john kelly's fate. he's the one that wanted her in that position and is responsible for putting her there, and he's her closest ally. to the extent that his relationship with the president has failed, it has put -- not failed, but frayed, it has put her on shakier footing. >> nick miroff, great t

mr. kushner. of course we also don't know -- at least from the reporting i just heard -- what level of security clearance. there are various levels. and the bigger -- from where i'm sitting, the bigger issue is how many people have had access to this kind of information without a cleared top-secret or a serious security clearance. that's something that we'll only find out in time, but it is a problem. >> that was my very next question. thank you for bringing it up. matt, do we know what level of security clearance he is getting back? >> my understanding is obviously these are the full clearances, the top-secret clearances that you would need to do that job, frankly. remember, back in february in the wake of the reporter fiasco, the white house chief of staff, john kelly, kind of said everybody who's on temporary clearances, provisional clearances -- which kushner was on -- is getting essentially bumped down. and you're getting a low-level of clearance. so he's been operating in the white house, i
