thank you mr. olson for bringing up some of the issues related to disasters. another is a response.it's important to note that in the northern california and napa and sonoma counties the cell phones do not work. life is not tidy. fires don't just occur between the time people get out maybe 7:00 o'clock in the morning and retire at 10:00 o'clock at night. were it not for the public safety people going toe to door and banging on doors in the middle of the night to arouse people, to get them out of their homes. they fled in their nightgowns and underwear, that was it. the fires were at the back of their houses and the roofs had started burning. the other alert was dogs barking so much awaken them. we can't live in a bubble that we have something, i think it's wonderful and american invention and a computer in our pocket, but we should not allow ourselves to dream on and say we have something in it will alert everyone. we have to think outside the envelope. i think the gentlemen for raising. i have to go downstairs for another hearing of the health subcommittee and wanted to come back a

mr. speaker, i rise today to recognize the service of carver county sheriff gym olson who recently announced his retirement. he began his law enforcement career 31 years ago. mr. paulsen: he was elected to his first four-year term in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. olson has led law enforcement operations during a time when carver county surpassed a population of over 100,000 people, making to one of the fastest growing counties in minnesota. he oversaw major public safety operations during the aftermath of prince's death as well as the ryder cup in 2016. he's well respected in our community and is involved in community outreach, raising public awareness of mental health resources, educating the public about the role of the sheriff's office and supporting the hope house, a youth homeless shelter. i want to thank sheriff olson for his many years of service and dedication, for keeping the residents of carver county safe. we wish him the best of luck in his future, and he will be missed. i yield back. the speaker pro tempore: for what purpose does the gentleman from new jersey seek recognize yigs?
