mr. puzder employed an undocumented immigrant in his household for years and he didn't pay taxes on this employment. yep, you heard that clearly. the trump administration which bellows about building a wall and pounds its chest about ripping millions of families apart with a deportation force, threatens to send millions of dream act kids with deportation has no problem putting a guy in charge of the labor department who cheats on his taxes and employs undocumented workers. the hi pock racy of that is pretty stunning even for the trump administration. then there's the controversy over alleged spousal abuse. over 25 years ago mr. puzder's first wife appeared on an episode of oprah winfrey in a show about spousal abuse, i have watched the episode which i believe every senator should. i found it extraordinarily trouble. along side his company's poor record of treatment of female employees, his highly explicit and sexualized ads and snide comments about sex discrimination there's campbell evidence that mr. puzder is a terrible choice to head the agency charged with ensuring that women an men

mr. puzder's company. the senators also heard from roberto ramirez who has worked in the fast food industry for over 20 years, mostly at carl's jr. in los angeles, california. he worked regularly off the clock at carl's jr. meaning they didn't pay him. roberto even had a full paycheck stolen by his manager. you know, for every laura, lupe and roberto, we found dozens of workers who were afraid to speak out about the terrible conditions at c.k.e. we compiled some of the stories from folks brave enough to speak up into a 20-page report detailing firsthand accounts of the men and women who work for mr. puzder. those stories are horrifying, and i will read some of them later this hour. mr. puzder's company has a truly atrocious record of treating his own workers terribly. indeed, he has dripping disdain for people who work for a living. this alone disqualifies him to be secretary of labor. but there's more. in recent weeks, it has come out that mr. puzder employed an undocumented immigrant in his household for

mr. puzder's divorce records.reportedly include allegations of domestic abuse made against him by his former wife in the 1980s. his former wife since recanted those allegations but today there's a new wrinkle in that part of the story. politico reported a few weeks ago andy puzder's ex-wife once appeared on the oprah winfrey show. around the time of their divorce. she appeared in disguise to talk about being a victim of domestic violence. reporting from politico in january set off a frenzy of people searching for that tape of that oprah winfrey show. nobody apparently found it. well today, three days before the hearing in the senate on andy puzder's confirmation, the tape has reportedly surfaced. the "washington post" reporting that one of the four republican senators who now says he or she is on the fence about andy puzder is maine senator susan collins. she said she has reviewed footage of an oprah winfrey show interview with puzder's ex-wife. tonight politico reports further the tape was provided to senators of

puzder, has said he no longer wishes to be considered for the job. his withdrawal had been anticipated. there has been widespread opposition to him, even within mr party, and several potentially damaging allegations. our correspondent david willis gave me more details. andrew puzder was the president's choice for the labour secretary position, and that is a position which basically oversees the rights of workers at the workplace. and mr puzder is the head of a company which runs fast food franchises. now, this is a company which has resisted increases in overtime pay, resisted increases in the minimum wage, resisted calls for paid sick leave, and so on. basically, nearly all the workplace benefits and rights that come under the purview, if you like, of the us labour department. on top of that, it was revealed that he and his wife had been hiring an undocumented worker as their housekeeper for the last five years, without paying taxes on her salary, and that mr puzder‘s ex—wife accused him of domestic abuse several decades ago, and actually went on the oprah winfrey programme to talk about this. now, she has since withdrawn those allegations. but

mr. puzder will not get that job as labor secretary.ow those four senators, i've talked to all four of them. susan collins, lisa murkowski of alaska, tim scott and donnie isaacson. each of them are saying that they want to review his record, they want to hear what he has to say. and some of them have different levels of concerns, based on his views, his record running a fast-food empire, as well as the controversies in his past. as you mentioned, hiring an undocumented imgrant as a household employee. there was an emergency meeting last week in senator mcconnell's office where they discussed these issues at length with these senators and others who sit on that key committee. and the republican leadership and business groups, anderson, i am told are putting in a very tough sell, a hard sell. they want to get him confirmed, because they believe he would be helpful for big business. there's still some confidence among republican leaders that they can get him confirmed but it will be a fight. >> one of the nominees involves oprah winfrey. >

mr. puzder. everything at cke is controlled from the top.ere are thousands of pages and manuals they control everything. there are strict standards. every restaurant has to meet strict standards for wages, service times, drive-through times, and a long list of other standards. meeting all the standards is a huge amount of work. cke requires all its general managers to be available 24/7. they specifically tell you you must always be available by phone to address problems in the restaurant, answer calls from the district manager. the work is nonstop. i work more than 60 hours a week. until 2009, cke paid a flat salary to general managers, even though we do the exact same work as hourly employees, the combat a refused to pay any overtime are even to pay anything to recognize the fact that we always work more than 40 hours each week. amy: so if you can weigh in on this hearing that took place, where it took place -- did senators hear it who are going to be deciding the fate of andrew puzder, whether he will become the labor secretary? >> absolut
