cnn's chad myers has the forecast. chad, where should people be on the alert today?digging out in california. we've seen 2 to 3 feet of snow just in the weekend hours. and now we have the storm moving to the east. now, it's not going to bring severe weather like sometimes they do, winter weather advisories all the way from minnesota all the way back to michigan. yes there will be snow and rain in parts of pennsylvania and new york state. upstate, especially new york state, for tonight into tomorrow. so it could be a slick spot through here. watch me taking you the next few hours. from now, later this afternoon, then all of a sudden, the snow does slide to the alleghenies, to the catskills, the poconos, and parts of i-95 in the morning hours so that could slow down the commute for sure. this is not a major storm. this is 1 to 2, to 4 inches of snow across the entire area. temperatures across the north are going to be colder than normal. down across the south, ridiculous, ridiculous more high temperatures again. 3,000 record high temperatures expected by the end of the

chad myers is in the weather center for us. how are things looking for today? >> you know, i mean, runners on first and third, one in the northeast, one in the southwest. the storm though in the northeast is winding down. not without wind, but at least the snow is winding down. this came down like concrete. this is difficult stuff to move. so a lot of kids are staying home today with snow days. but look at some of these totals. approaching 4 feet of snow in the heaviest bands across parts of upstate new york and also western mass. but you go from 33 inches to holly, boston along the shore not ofm much at all. bee boston suburbs you have shovelable snow. but today the problem is winds 50 miles per hour still at this point as the storm pulls away. yes, there are still some snow showers around, but the next story you will hear is rain in southern california. it never rains in southern california, but when it does, it is that, very heavy from l.a. down to san diego. it will eventually get into the rockies making great snow for salt lake city, for the benches above

let's bring in meteorologist chad myers.inter storms. >> right, exactly. all of the inner mountain west will pick up snow from this. we have light rain this morning look at this batch of cloudy. from hawaii. this is the pineapple express again. even though we've had over a foot of rainfall. these aren't snow totals. these are rainfall totals from the last storm. so although this may not be as big of a unit coming in across parts of eye hawaii, across the pineapple express, it's already on top of very saturated ground. that's why the flood potential with the next storm is so high. the rivers are already high. more rainfall that comes in tonight and tomorrow will be unwelcome at best. and snow in the higher elevations could be four to six feet on top of those tens or dozens of feet that that he already have. here you mentioned the snow coming into the rockies as well. they'll take that for sure. one more thing to mention for the northeast is this storm will eventually get there with wind advisories across the west. and also th
