here's nbc bay area's robert honda. long pham fulfilled a dream two years ago by becoming a community service officer and at today's memorial. family, friends and fellow officers paid tribute to that dream. san jose closed downtown this morning for the procession to bring officer long pham to the sap center for an emotional memorial service. pham died when he and fellow officer veronica bear were conducting traffic control at an accident scene on monterey road, august 3rd, when a suspected drunk driver hit them. the driver was arrested. bear and pham rushed to the hospital with major injuries. bear is still on the mend and managed to attend the funeral. bear joined officers from around california, including state attorney general rob bonta, who said the gathering made one thing obvious he loved this community and that this community loved him right back. long pham's family had a collective message. the pham family had asked me to convey their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support you have shown during this di

dana griffin, nbc news.pening this week, a vigil for the san jose police community service officer killed in the line of duty this month. 34 year old long pham was helping direct traffic on august 3rd when he was struck and killed by a driver. a second officer was hospitalized in that same crash. a vigil is set for 730 thursday night at the vietnamese heritage garden on roberts avenue. again, it's in san jose. it was organized by city council member. a memorial service is set for later this month. this is the first time a san jose police community service officer has ever been killed in the line of duty. the man who allegedly ran into the officers is facing murder and dui charges. three men are due in court for a plea hearing tomorrow tied to the shooting death of a security guard killed while protecting a tv news crew. kevin died two years ago in oakland during what investigators say was an attempted robbery. alameda county district attorney pamela price added enhanced charges for shadia mitchell, herschel
