this is nbc bay area news tonight. i'm raj mathai. we begin this week with a favorite vacation spot for the bay area. a lot of prayers at this hour that south lake tahoe avoids major damage. the entire south lake tahoe basin is under evacuation orders. let's take you out to a live chopper video now of the caldor fire. one final ridge stands behind this fire and the entire south lake tahoe region. you can see sun setting near the sierra. the fire continues to burn along highway 50. homes, businesses and other structures are gone. this is a shot near the homes at sierra at tahoe resort. some are gone while others have been saved. and that kind of hopscotching the of the fire line, we've seen this kind of behavior in the prior years. about 20,000 people were told to leave today. here's the latest evacuation map, it includes all the communities up to the nevada state line. if you want to explore this map further, we've posted it on our website. with highway 50 closed in terms of westbound, the main route was highway 50 eastbound. major roa
