new york city. seven people are confirmed dead after a commuter train crashed into an suv at a crossing. it happened last night on the metro north line about 20 miles north of new york city. here's what we know the train slammed into a jeep cherokee. the jeep and front of the train caught fire witnesses say the railroad crossing geatz came down on top of the suv which is stopped on the tracks. one passenger said he and hundreds of others scrambled to safety. >> a number of us were smelling fumes from the car, fuel and we said we needed to get out as the fire was spreading back to the second car. the second car finally did ignite. >> authorities say the driver of the jeep and six train passengers died. several others were hurt. the impact was so powerful that it pierced the train. that happened in the same crash that occurred in 2013 in the bronx where four passengers died in that derailment and dozens were hurt. investigators determined in that case that the engineer fell asleep and the train went t
