the investigation, as you saw in the interview whether or not he had talked to matt whitaker, the new ag about it, whether he had any intentions to fire robert mueller. he said he had no plans to do anything. it was some of his last aggressive public answers on the investigation, which i thought was interesting. >> any sense about why? obviously there was a lot of other things in your paper and many others about developments in the investigation overnight. >> i don't know that it chases him. i think his lawyers, rudy giuliani, people around him in the white house have told him that floating a pardon for paul manafort or making any sort of comments about paul manafort could be harmful to his cause. wait this out, see what happens. you can consider what other options you want. but to be careful for now. so far the president has taken that advice. as we have seen time and time again he might decide not to at any minute. >> so, josh, the president offered you a drink in the oval office and you refused. why? >> well, i wasn't thirsty. now, the president, you know, one of the things the presid

think it's a coincidence the president stalled on answering these questions n oan once he gets a new ag behold, he'll suddenly give these answers to the questions and won't answer the questions about obstruction of justice and i gather probably won't answer other things as well. one of the other things the president said over the weekend, you know, about whitaker is he didn't know his views on the case before appointing him. we just know that's not true from reporting. we know the only reason he was at the justice department in the first place is the president saw him speaking out on television against the mueller probe. had him interview with a job with the white house. he didn't get that but they pushed him over to the department of justice to be the white house's eyes and ears. and he sat in the oval office and nodded along gleefully when the president would attack the mueller probe for over a yoor up until the time he got the acting ag job. the fix has been in for a while. doesn't mean he'll reach in and end the mueller probe but it does mean if the special counsel wanted to get a s

it's getting under his skin because now he's lashing out at the entire russia probe, despite his new agying "the inner workings of the mueller investigation are a total mess." that's the first time he's claimed to have knowledge of the inner workings of mueller's team. this comes after he named matt whitaker to oversee the probe. he says mueller's prosecutors are screaming and shouting at people, horribly threatening them to come up with the answers they want. that doesn't match from what we know from bob mueller's public life and the leakproof investigation he's been running the. special counsel's office had no comment on any of this. a federal judge ruled against the company run by a man known as putin's chief and said mueller's charges against that operation will stand. i'm joined tonight by former federal prosecutor paul butler and still with me on the ground is jason johnson. paul, what does it tell you that donald trump that has put someone in he thinks is better than rod rosenstein and jeff sessions and his goals for the doj and he's still full my nating against this probe? >> so
