it's happening at new hall and willow pass parks in concord. don knapp is at new hall park where the latest attack came last night. >> reporter: that's right. killing the water fowl at the park is not only cruelty to animals, but the killing poses a risk to humans. the call to police and animal control came in around 8:00 a.m., reporting dead and wounded ducks and geese. here by the ponds at new hall park, a sign warns visitors of coyotes, but animal services officer mike russell says the water fowl are being killed by people with guns. >> as far as we know, it's a very small caliber rifle or pellet rifle of some sort. >> reporter: five ducks and geese were killed, two more will probably die from injuries. most of the dead and wounded had been cleared at the time of the video was shot. one dead bird was on the ground, another bleeding through its white feathers. brenda adams and her family live nearby and have heard gunshots at night. >> there were multiple shots. we called 911 right away and they were still shooting while they were doing that.

the latest killings were discovered this morning at concord's new hall park. nty francis has that story. >> reporter: this is the horrific sight that greeted visitors saturday morning at concord's new hall park. at least four dead geese and a fifth injured and limping, which animal control officers said they could not retrieve. investigators say overnight, someone came into the park and shot the birds with a pellet or bb gun. >> i seen blood on one side but i didn't see an exit wound. >> reporter: this isn't the first time dead geese and ducks have turned up at new hall park. a few days ago ron found three of the large birds floating dead in the pond, also shot to death. >> there is two geese right here floating. and the duck was down further. pulled the tuck out of the water just to see what happened to him. because coyotes around here, stuff like that. >> reporter: it wasn't a coyote. investigators think the two incidents at new hall park, along with the killings of eight ducks and geese at willow pass park in concord three weeks ago, could all be related. >>

police received reports of four dead geese earlier today at new hall park.rvices of contra costa county responded to the park and the dead geese. they also found a fifth goose that was injured and then later died. animal control says the birds had been killed by someone who shot them with a bb gun or pellet gun. investigators also think this killing is connected to three ducks at the same pond just a few days ago and another incident at willow pass park in concord about a week ago when eight geese and ducks were shot and killed. if caught, the culprit could face a long list of charges including some felony charges for animal cruelty. but so far there are no leads and no arrests. >>> not all of santa's helpers are at the north pole, of course. some of them spent most of their time working on the san francisco bay. and today the nonprofit called bar pilots took their skills on shore to put 150 bikes together for needy kids. this is the 12th year they've donated the bikes and assembled them for grateful kids and parents. and that's not all. >> later in the week

the latest happened at concord's new hall park over the weekend. christie smith joins us live in concord with more. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning, laura. this park is surrounded by homes and families use it. they bring their kids here. someone is shooting ducks and geese and leaving them for neighbors to find. that was the case this weekend. and i have to tell you, you know, the video is unpleasant. it's disturbing. it tells you what's really happening here. this e weekend the visitors found four geese dead. a fifth one was limping, apparently hit in the leg. the animal control couldn't retrieve it. but they think someone gave in with a pellet gun or bb gun and shot them a few days ago. a neighbor said he saw three other ducks or geese floating in the water. within recent weeks similar incidents were at willow pass park. >> the way the birds were killed, the way they were found, areas where they were found, there's a good possibility it was connected. but we don't know for sure until we finish the investigation. >> and neighbors
