i appreciate it, good to be back in new hampshire and good to have familiar faces here and new faces as well and i'm happy to be here to talk to all of you tonight and hear from all of you tonight about the issues that are going on in the country right now, the things that we're concerned about, the things that you're concerned about, and maybe some ideas i have about how our country should be able to deal with that. so over the last few weeks, i've been exploring whether i should run for president or not, thinking about it, going around and seeing folks, making phone calls, talking to people and when that happens, you know, you get a decent amount of attention or at least i do, and then people start to call you affirmatively and start to ask you questions and i had a good friend of mine who i used to serve with as u.s. attorney recently call me and say, why? [laughter] >> why? why would you think about doing this again? what would drive you to do this again? and so i didn't answer her directly. i told her, none of her business. and hang in there and wait to see what i do or don't do

but when i go back to new hampshire people are -- inflation is real and not going away. low income families are without choices or we're dealing with homeless. the lowest poverty rate in the country and have school choice for people. we do. i good et the -- i get the drama but at the end of the day the average american facing is not hearing about it. every family is dealing with some form of mental health crisis. every family is scared about drugs and opioids and treatment and recovery systems. we should be leading on that. those should be our issues. republicans have an awesome opportunity to steal back the issues of homelessness, mental health. look at california. you can't blame a single republican for that humanitarian disaster of san francisco and los angeles. that's all left wing. look at red states. they have typically the lowest poverty rates and the lowest -- most unemployment. the most economic success for those individuals. why aren't we stealing those issues and talking about them that resonate with the voters? >> bill: people in new york and chicago and san

i came from the campaign trail from new hampshire, we are on a bus tour. i started this morning with an event, i am going to be speaking at an event tonight in new hampshire. i came here to be with you in person. i didn't want to be one of those career politicians that checks the box, speaks to you by zoom. i wanted to be here in person to deliver a personal message. i came here to tell you why i became a gun owner. i'm going to be honest with you. i came from an immigrant family, with an emphasis on math and science. i grew up in an anti-gun household. he didn't grow up hunting, we didn't go sport shooting, i could tell you, i have been to the shooting range less than i can count on two hands. the reason i became a gun owner is the second amendment was made for moments like today.
