and then a new mexico historic site. in february 1971, navajos carried rocks from navajo nation to fort sumner historic site and remembrance of their ancestors who had suffered and died at willoughby. these rocks from the base of the historical on the ground of the fort which navajo visitors have added to an array of objects, a flower 10, a carved horse, a wooden arrow, a purple heart. 20 years later, navajo students visited fort sumner and noticed that the navajo experience was nowhere to be seen. the ruins of the fort and the signage placed around the site mentioned them only briefly as prisoners. they read a letter to the state demanding that the story of navajos and mescalero patches be included at the site it took 15 years but in 2005 oski redondo memorial was built and dedicated at fort sumner. today visitors must walk through a ceremonial ground and memorial itself noted to access the ruins. of fort sumner along the banks. within the memorials rooms and halls are objects that testify to all of the sites different

we made a decision to move to albuquerque, new mexico. this was before daca. while we moved, i.c.e. still posed a threat but we made new friend at our school and obtained good grades. college application was tricky. new mexico state university was out of the question because of its proximity to the border. other forms of financial aid were do it come by. i went on to earn a bachelor of science at the university of new mexico. because of immigrant youth fought to be protected the daca program was created in 2012. after that life changed for me and many immigrant youth. i had access to different jobs, i could now move freely in the u.s., i could finally breathe a sigh of relief. unlike dream act legislation of years past academic achievement was not a qualification for daca. even though i'm here as a medical student and someone who is proud of her accomplishments i come from a community of resilient and strong mechanics, construction workers, teachers, home care workers, moms and dads and people from all walks of life who call this nation home. when donald trump killed daca my mental h
